I think its going to be the issue with teens I was the same you think it wont happen to you its not until you get a little older that you relies bad shit happens to everyone.
Not to mention you have no fear when your young.
Maybe just ring the cops know it sounds like a shit thing to do but maybe make them wear gear out fear of a ticket again.

the law requires you to wear a helmet. Next time you see someone without one, call the cops. A fairly hefty fine usually fixes things promptly.
If we as a community of bikers are TRULY serious about the safety of all of us together, perhaps we could make submissions to parliament to legislate on the compulsory use of protective clothing as well. How would that go down with other bikers???? (probably not very well)

I see just as many old guys riding around in shorts and t-shirts as I do teens. Though the teens generally seem to ride to a much worse standard.
My biggest rage came from seeing a 15 year old-ish girl riding a 2009 Yamaha Jog, hot pants, strappy shoes and blouse, BUT with a $1000+ Arai Nakano rep helmet. "Only the safest for my daughter!"

But of course if you slide and then hit something with your head its a different story.

A cop would not attend such a call out. They may invite you to write a formal complaint, but then it is your word against the riders, so the worst that will happen for all your effort is a letter to the person who you are complaining against saying a complaint has been laid against them.
End result, nothing.

Tell the cops they're speeding and weaving around the road so may be drunk. Say you fear other drivers may be at risk. Even then, chances of getting a cop to nab them is pretty slim...

lately on my commute home ive pulled up at lights an theres a dude on a scooter sitting there, sure they ride in shorts an jandels but ive noticed there wearing a helmet but the straps hanging down. seems like 30secs to do your helmet up is too much time. i've made a few comments too them telling them there stupid, but there head.

I see it everyday in town people on all sorts of bikes riding around town in shorts and trainers they actually kind of look at me weird becuase I am riding around town on a hot day with a leather jacket and all my gear on.
I don't see why people don't get how nasty it would be sliding on your face doing 50km on the road gives me the shits.
Even yesterday on my ride stopped at a local gassy see the young guy I did my bhs with pull up with his old man his dad was geared on a bmw and young guy was on his brand new 2010 Hyo gt250r which did really look nice which his dad brought for him lucky bugger .
Anyway putting my gloves and helmet back on admiring his new bike when I notice that hes got all the gear on apart from the fact he wearing sneakers!! and there off down to the south Island hes on a $8000 bike and cant even go and buy a cheap pair off boots my guess was he wanted to wear trainers not a cash issue.
Not trying to slag the guy its just does not make sense if do read these forums man your new hyo looks beautiful!
You plenty of cheap gear you can get as well it may not be top of the line but sure is better then nothing.

No such thing!! I feel incredibly embarassed riding around with warehouse safety boots, and a hallensteins fake leather jacket, but its the best ive got for now. Will be upgrading ASAP!! Although i do have some proper dri-rider pants and decent gloves and a helmet

I'm going to have to agree with DangerousBastard on this. No point trying to change the mind of every rider who decides to ride without protection.

Lost In Translation
A Jog rider at work was just looping the strap through one D ring and clipping up the press stud because he couldn't figure out how to do the D-rings properly. This was not a stupid guy (honestly), just not very practical and lacking on common sense. He received a brief, polite lesson on how to do it so it will actually work, and now he straps up correctly. So, sometimes a bit of help is all that is needed.
Some people are, however, beyond help.
Fair weather rider
Just tell them they can go way harder if they wear gear!
