Wet bollocks is losing its appeal

I'm after some advice on wet weather gear. I'm riding an upright naked sports tourer and have found that after around 30mins riding in solid rain my dri rider one piece suit seems to leak. To explain the leak further, it is the kind of leak that provides a similar sensation to that of someone pouring a cup of cold water down the top of your pants. Nice.

As you can imagine, this becomes rather tedious and so I am after wet weather gear that wont leak.

    My questions to you are:
    1. Am I being ridiculous? Does all wet weather gear leak eventually?
    2. How long should you expect wet weather gear to hold its waterproofing?
    3. Is this just a side effect of a naked bike? (should I sort out a fairing?)

I'd appreciate any advice you could offer, especially from those commuters out there that have handled years of wet weather abuse with a dry set of bollocks (or feminine variant of such).

(people who enjoy and actively seek wet bollocks need not apply)

Have you tried washing your current gear in special sauce?

If dirt gets into the pores of wet weather gear it can cause leaks.

Don't use normal laundry detergent though. You need to use special stuff from a motorbike or outdoor type shop. Might be worth a first crack.

I did that for my old cordura stuff but this is just the think waterproof material...does the wash work for both? When I washed the cordura it worked for a little bit, but they were never the same really and seemed to have a definite waterproof lifespan.

Has anyone got waterproof gear they swear by (in a good way, rather than a "FUCK my bollocks are cold" way)? Is there gear that will continue to be waterproof and rugged given some TLC?

I get the same result from a sports tourer. Same place. Sort of makes you want to take a leak more often...or is that my age

So Fairing probably will not fix it. I am interested also to see what people here use........

My Spidi Gran Turismo pants have never leaked in the time I've had them (4 years??) - but that's what you'd expect for $550.
However (but!) when I'm wearing them without the thermal liner in the rain, and the water finally gets through the outside material and runs down the Goretex liner, it feels Eggs Zachary like they're leaking anyway. So, you stay dry, but think you're wet.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Same here, I finish my Postie round as dry as I started it.

HOLYMOTHERFUCKERSHITWANKSUPERWETBOLLOCKS there's some expensive kit out there...but I must have dry nuts so looks like I'm off to the finance department to start negotiations.

I pretty much thought that wet weather gear is a "get what you pay for" product so no real surprise there.

And good to hear a fairing wont help (unless its one of those fairings on a Honda Sherman-Tank-Wing) so my bike can stop it's quivering, we can stay together for another year.

In the interim, I'll try some textile wash with my rain gear and see if it helps in any way.

I just use a pair of "Techniflex" Navy blue stretchy rubbery sort of Pants, They fold up small enough to go under the seat. Draw string waist, domes at the ankle, big enough to go over the Leather/Cordura. You can get them at any Wrightsons/CRT or safety store. you don't need to spend a fortune to stay dry, eventually all the cordura "100% Waterproof" stuff leaks.

Is PVC gear, with sealed/taped seams, out of the picture? been commuting with the like for several years. Spent maybe $40-$50 over the period on maybe two sets - replaced them whenever I could see the tape or vicinity of tape starting to wear thin, or if i got the squidgy testes in the rain. WAY cheaper than GoreTex, and could spend the money saved on extra anti-perspirant due to lesser breathability of PVC vs GoreTex.

Would think this wear at the seams only happened so quickly due to using aforementioned gear on tramps/walks etc, otherwise wouldnt think it would have worn out so quick...
Do you smell that? Two Stroke, son.Nothing else in the world smells like that.I love the smell of Two Stroke in the morning.

    The Alpinestars gear DOESN'T leak!

My Spidi "R-Type" jacket used to always leak in the front

Have you checked for any gap or tear in the seam of the lining thingy. When I suffered the same problem this is what the posters on KB came up with and sure enough. By the way here is the link to drystar promo video.

    Get a ROOT (tm).
Seriously, there is nothing like a ROOT (tm) to keep one warm and dry...
