I'm gonna keep this shortish because I'm typing with one hand but I think this is well worth sharing (and I was bored sitting in hospital doing nothing)
So, firstly, sorry for screwing with our ACC campaign, I couldn't resist having my first crash.
The main point of this though is so I'll pass on a few things I learnt, the very hard way.
1. ALWAYS give yourself room and stay away from the "centre line"
2. Take a late apex so you can take another bite if so stuff up
3. Keep your eyes on the road - YOU WILL MAKE IT.
5. Expect a car will ALWAYS be around the corner if you can't see through it.
4. MOST IMPORTANT - green markers on the side of the road mean culvert. Stay away from them!
So the explanation, I didn't do anything bad as such but I didn't do much right when I should have. I was close to the "centre line" but not over it. Going well below what I could have done. An SUV came around the corner close to the line as well. I got spooked, sat it up for a little to give me more room. But then the corner tightened. I hit the grass, and started to head back onto the road. About 1/2 metre from getting back on the road, I hit a culvert. A deep one!
I got off bloody lucky, broken hand and broken pelvis. But others need to realise the only mistakes I made on my whole 40min ride. On the only corner I did it happened to have a car on it. I didn't do anything majorly wrong but the little things I did, compounded quickly. Always expect it, even when you're not even CLOSE to your limits.
OK carry on![]()
