    Hard Drive recovery tools??

managed to break comp and after trying lots of things I reformatted my HD as I was rather annoyed and hoped this would enable me to get Windows on to it! Looks as though my copy of XP is poo though, and that that may of been the problem.

Anyways anyone had any luck getting info off a formatted Hard Drive??? If so how?

    Thanks Alex

GetDataback is one of the more known apps that's really good. I've tried it myself and it worked, as long as you haven't overwritten the 'forgotten' data you'll be sweet.

Hmmm, best of luck mate, this wont be easy
To every man upon this earth
    Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
    Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods

If you were running NTFS on it, there is a handy little DOS program which doesn't need any system to open, it is self booting called NTFS Active Uneraser, the website is www.ntfs.com

Life is difficult because it is non-linear.

When my ipod was detroyed by windows I used 'active undelete' software to recover most data. It scans all sectors and throws up old crap that was wiped/deleted. !DO NOT! write anything onto your harddrive for now. Run the software off a floppy disk just incase you are wiping stuff while writing data over the old wiped stuff.

I think it was cracked software but if you have problems just email me.

Good luck and I know how it feels!

If it was a low level format (writes zeros), i say you will be out of luck.

Well if that's the last thing you did then the data should still be there. The format has made the drive has simply 'forget' what's on it.
