    Suzi A50 electrical problem

Hi. First post from a newbie.

I'm restoring an old (early 70's) Suzuki A50 2-stroke. With a new carby she fired up straight away and has always started first kick since then (a few weeks). Went to start her yesterday and she fired up then died after about 2 seconds. No spark to the plug. Checked the wiring and it seems that the -ve terminal to the battery goes straight to the ignition switch which is then earthed through to the chassis. Checking the circuit on to the body of the ignition switch showed zero voltage, but when unbolting the ignition switch (so it was no longer connected to the chassis) and rechecking, there was a circuit. Would this indicate that a live wire is shorting onto the chassis somewhere? Any help would be appreciated. Cheers.
