    Not starting

    Hey all.

My FA50 isn't starting. Has spark, sounds like it wants to go but wont fire up.

Any ideas? Was thinking about removing the carb then dissembling to give a clean.

Have you done anything to it since it ran?
    Blocked fuel line/filter?
Air leak in manifold (if plastic, they can crack).

    Google?

I removed the gas tank and oil tank as I wanted to check the wiring and give under the tanks bit of a clean. Also removed the air cleaner to check the filter element.

After the clean and wiring check I reinstalled the tanks and filter, Then I starter her up and all was well (ran good, took her for a drive about 15meters. Then turned the motor off. Wouldn't start after that.

There is fuel in the tank and there is spark at the sparkplug. Although the spark plug was very fouled with carbon and the looks of oil.

And I have Googled but I would like peoples opinions.

Has your tank got a prime position on it ? a lot of petcocks are vacuum operated
and need to be set to prime to allow some gas into the carb or carbs if you have had the tank off
Once its going switch back to the on position. That would be my first thing to check.

Yes, have tried priming it for 10-15 seconds. But had no luck :-(

My thought would've been a broken vacum hose to the petcock, or connected wrong.

    Hey again guys,

Went home before when I had to go into the city to do some stuff for work (including picking up a new FA50 frame from Paul Swift for $43) and had another shot at a couple of things on the moped:

Tried started her again and she ran for only about 1 second. Pulled off the muffler and tried again, but had same issues.

Double checked the air filter was attached securely. Tried starting her again and she went for about 1 second again after kick starting at least 15 times.

The two fuel hoses that come from the fuel tank, does it matter what one goes on what fitting from the tank? I'm thinking that may be the problem as I didn't take note of what the fitting that hose connects to from the fuel tank.

    Appreciating your help :-)

Just thinking....if i put those hoses on the incorrect way, it must not be getting a vacuum that the carburetor needs to pull fuel? Or something along those lines, so as soon as I get home I'll get them swapped over.

If there are 2 hoses and it a single carb I would think one must be vacuum,
you could have them the wrong way round...

Changed the fuel lines around. Grabbed my keys and went to start her up and the fucking key wasnt on my key ring. Stayed and thought that it had to be somewhere!

Got to work this morning and it was laying out in the yard

So will pop home soon and give it another shot.

Is it both sides on the indicators that dont flash ?
It could be the flasher relay,I think you can replace them with one from a car,
    pick one up at Supercheap.
You could do with a manual, have a search online probably be able to download a free one.
    Glad its running.

Yeh neither side flashes. The only way to replace it with a car one is to find a 6v one, which would most likely need to be out of an old VW.

I already replaced the broken 6v relay (8w x2 +3w) with a 6v 17w x 2 relay aswell as trying a higher wattage bulb but have had no luck.

Purchased a second hand FA50 flasher off TradeMe that is hopefully fully operational So hopefully that sorts the issue.

    Flasher arrived today.

On a note of me being stupid, i leant the moped to my friend for the afternoon. Get it back from him to find the battery has been overcharging and has oozed out battery crap all over the motor etc.

So that frustrates me after I fitted another rectifier...what could be going on???
