I tend to refer to the things people do as retarded rather than them being retarded, however if they are constantly do stupid shit then maybe they are a retard. I call myself retarded when I do stupid things. I try not to call people who are actually mentally challenged or who have 'special needs' retarded though, it's not their fault they are the way they are. That's actually a fascinating point that you raised because the answer is actually a social one. "Idiot" used to be a medically defined termed. Then, funnily enough, people started using it to label others (that did not medically match the criteria). Same with spastic. Same with retard/retarded.

I guess my grandkids will be called each other "disabled" in the playground and society will have to come up with a new word.

Can't stand the guy. He goes out of his way to say stupid things to make himself the center of attention. I did however enjoy his little interview with John Key the other day when he said they should just cut off Graeme Butons other leg to make him level. He's the reason I have 'Breakfast' on in the morning instead of just the radio. He entertains me and while he goes a bit close to the line on a weekly basis, he is an intelligent guy who will challenge the people he interviews if they talk shit. I appreciate that.

FWIW, he didn't make comments about moustache lady, he merely read what other people had said and commented that people should not apply their own standards to other people. (he did have a wee twinkle in his eye as he read the comments though...).
