Unhappy Interesting re: Motor Vehicles v experience

"Yours is yet another terrible example of the tragedies that invariably result when young people get into high-powered motor vehicles.

    Hard lesson learnt here!

why oh why do Learner or Restricted... or just new drivers get to drive a high powered vehicle, with no road experince

AND I GET STUCK WITH A 250CC FOR 9 MONTHS HUH after driving for 25 years, never had a accident, no ACC... erm

I think reducing the cc rating of motor vehicles like bikes should be BOUGHT TO THE FORFRONT OF THE GOVERNMENT.. but I am just one wee person, with little time. mmmm

This was identified in the recent Safer Journeys consultation, and I think there is a good chance something will be implemented for the 2020 roading strategy.

Note it may be a power/weight ratio restriction, or something similar, as opposed to a simple cc restriction (to catch those turbo and superchargers!).

What lesson, he got back in a car and drove under the influence again.

That shows no remorse or accountability for his actions, so now we are going to fork out $92,000 a year to have him locked up.

And when he gets released we just gotta hope when he does it again its not ourselves or family that are killed.

But he was not put in jail OR caught the first time, I am not going to argue the point, or get angry about it... my issues were not really about HIM...but about what he was driving!

I definitely agree with this, its absolutely stupid. One of my neighbours bought their daughter a late model WRX STI for her 15th birthday. We're talking 250kw $70,000 car. Admittedly she hasnt wrecked it yet, but many more like her would have.
    Yeah, nah.

Ah yes a silvia, small 2dr sports coupe.

So if he had a 1.5L that can do 150k's has higher centre of gravity narrower tires smaller brakes and fwd what would that change?

I'd like to see vehicles that have throttle/speed restrictions that can only be overriden by a full licence and record information who, when, throttle graphs, speed, g forces, braking so on to give
    a. feedback to driver to improve driving
    b. monitoring younger/newer driver behaviour

I'd like to have that in my car so I can show people why I no longer let them use my car. - ah because u did like 20ks and used a shitload of gas and put strain on my driveline engine and suspension. Tires cost too wheres my gas money MF.

There is talk of that already ... and I learned to drive in a 1958 Humber 80.... Horsepower was never an issue.

If MOT listen to stakeholder and public submissions, it should be at the forefront...
It was one of the most highest ranked issues submitted.

The summary of subs here pg 23 summarises concerns, graphs on pages 52/53 show response from 130 stakeholders, 1400 public submissions, and ranking values.

In my time I've had quite a few V8's, Turbos and the like. I had a 400 Cube blown Monaro when I was 19 and it was even legitimately insured. But I feel the atitude was a bit different to in our day. Oh my god I feel sooooo old.
