It's not so much a holiday as a rememberance day on which we are given a holiday so we can pay proper respect. Unfortunately the people who don't work on the day miss out.

Not necessarily Catholic but obviously Christian based.

Easter falls on the first Sunday after the Full Moon on or next after the vernal equinox (Spring... March 20 or 21). However, if the Full Moon occurs on a Sunday, Easter is celebrated on the following Sunday.

    So now you know

Thats an insult to the fallen IMO

Also, that Easter ( a religeous holiday) still causes non religeous people to suffer at the hands of the zealots, eg the trading limitations posed on and around this bullshit religeous crap, for goodness sake.....ya aint allowed to say a prayer at school anymore without permission but the gubbermint WILL fine you for trading at Easter?
    Hypocricy!!!

FFS when is Catholocism going to get buried, its the 21'st century and I for one would rather celebrate the memory of the guys who gave it all for our freedom than a myth from aincient rome based on the life of a carpenter some muppet belived was born of a virgin in a barn.....
I suggest that the fallen would probably be more upset about many "other behaviours" of successive governments since their sacrifice, before they would feel dishonoured by the "rules" of ANZAC day!

The sacrifice of the ANZAC's was above all else, to uphold our national and individual "freedom"! Successive governments have steadily eroded both IMHO!

Personally, I believe if you are a trader and you want to offer trade, it is between you and your customer and nobody else!

The only limitation in trading hours should be set by those parties directly affected, I.E. trade or do not trade! Freedom of the individual!

Bloody interfering busybody governments and pressure groups etc, should mind their own business!

Catholicism, is the business of those who would be catholic, you don't have to go there unless you want to! Freedom of choice!

However, it is your right to have and express an opinion about it, as it is the right of others to listen or not! Freedom of speech!

There are too many stupid restricting rules, regulations and laws governing our lives, it's time to clean them out!

Bring back freedom and individual rights, abolish dumb laws! ASAP!

Well, the bright thing for shop people is, that they are only closed for one half day and not too - therefore better for their business......

For sure, Easter Monday is little more than a holiday. Easter Friday & Sunday are the big ones for Christians and even then, they are just dates that were chosen to remember the death through resurection...for all we know it actually happened on Christmas and Jesus was probably born on Easter

The resurrection IS the 25th December, in northern Hemisphere. Someone from astronomy please..?
    And then there's Easter :-)

Plenty of good reasons for holidays, just not Holidays please.

I'd quite like a quiet day once a week - you know, no lawnmowers, chainsaws, building, DIY, just a day off. If we could stretch to that I'd barely need 'holidays' to 'get away from it all'.

Yeah, but at the risk of being labelled PC and soft, there are a lot of people who believe in it.

...though the catholics can fuck off, they're a weird mob... don't trust any church led by blokes who wear dresses.

Didn't Labour give us another week of annual leave every year?
    Can't complain about that.

No. They legislated for employers to give us another week.
