    Pando - useless

Hi, I am new to this forum stuff and new to biking as I have not owned a bike for 37 years. Have purchased an M90 and loving it. Got a flat tyre (rear) in the weekend and was advised by tyreman in a small Coromandel town that a Pando Kit would work and I could carry on to Tauranga. The purpose of this message is to fold. (A) Pando does not work and is a total waste of time and money. The tyreman administered it for me and when the inflation started it just blew out the puncture hole(a small scew) and made a hua of a mess everywhere. Absolute waste of time and money and should not be on the market. (B) What options are available to buy and should be carried should this ever happen again. Ended up getting the bike transported to Tauranga thanks to Protecta AA insurance clause.

    Get a dog turd kit.
Around 90 bux from most shops, can even plug up a tyre that has been over a spike strip and ride home.

Tubless only for nail holes/ screw holes use a dogturd plug, self sealing and you can carry them in your tool kit no worries. But you still need to inflate the tyre afterwards, a panda will do this.
Pandas will work in a tubed tyre if it is a screw/nail hole.
right application for the right job

Welcome M90 from another Coro resident! I carry a Pando but only as last resort as I have a plug kit with Co2 bottles. (plus a small mountain bike pump).

    See you on the road

Hey there M90, we must have only ben a couple of hours behind you in that same little coro town Whanga BLOODY Mata.
One of our 8 riders received a puncture to his tubed rear tyre.
We scoured the town looking for a pando.I got the same guy as you did, he swore balck and blue that the Pando would Not work on a tubed tyre.
Though I have the dog turd seals and Co2 I know that they won't work on a tubed tyre either.
We had to get our mate home and then have one of our riders take his van back and pick the bike up.
Apart from that the trip (full Coro loop) was a Blast ( he , he from the past= our social group, BFTP)
Fantastic roads, traffic light, weather purrfect.
Hope you are all fixed up and ready to ride again.
Every day above ground is a good day!:

Tyre pando for tubed tyres only. I have used them a number of times, and they have worked just over half the times. Fortunately the times that counted the most were wet and very dark nights. Pando won't work if the hole isn't in the tread area, or if the hole is large.

Do not use pando on tubeless tyres, it will just blow out the hole, use the dog turds.
    Time to ride

Never had a pando work. Used a temp plug once from a BMW kit and it worked OK. Now days I carry plugs CO2, puncher repair kit, tyre levers and a small bike air pump.

Have used a pando twice - both times on tubeless tyres. The first time worked sweet as and I rode rather nervously from East cape to Whakatane - saved my butt. 2nd time it got me home (60-70km) but leaked out the hole and made a mess.

Now I carry a tubless tyre repair kit as mentioned by others - easy to use and they work. Even have a wee compressor for when on tour.

    Pando

Thanks for the advise all, guess you can say by the law of averages overall its a useless produce as from the postings it works less than half the time. Not really good odds when you are stuck in the boonies.
I will be carrying the "Dog turd kit" with me from now on. Thanks for the help.

Bugger! I've carried a Pando for years, haven't had cause to use one myself but have given one to another rider who managed to continue on his way.

So my current much travelled can is going to be no use at all?
    Glad i didn't need it...

I have brought from Warehouse cheap compressor,12 bucks, take all the plastic surrounds off and unit is small enough to fit under seat. Got whats called dog turds repair kit and tubeless tyres on bike. I have used these cheap compressors before on quads and other bikes, They are not fast but they work ok.

Theres two main types of pando.
one smells like shit, has ammonia (smells like) in it and softens the rubber on the inside of your tyre, causing the rubber to bend and fill whatever hole.

the other has some kinda fiberous goo shyte suspended in slime, and when your tyre punctures (in theory) the slime oozes out and fiberous stuff gets stuck round the nail/screw/whatever untill its sealed.
