Written off bikes and personalised plates

Having found out that the Katana has been written off by the insurance company, I thought I would ask the experts on the process re Personalised plates.

Now I know when I change bikes, I just fill out a form and transfer to the new ride. But what do you do when you haven't actually got a new ride to transfer it to?

I'm sure there will be a number of people on here that have been in this situation.
I'm only wearing black until they develop something darker

Just get the plate back. You own it. I have a plate in the shed I haven't used for years... I still can, though. Frenchy LOVES it... "R1 ETA"

There must be some paperwork that needs completed to ensure that the plate stays with me and not on the bike. The physical plate isn't the issue. It's the ownership I'm interested in.
When you request a plate to be produced, you have to specify the vehicle that it's going on. The same goes for transferring.

So my initial question was - what do you do when you haven't got a vehicle to transfer it to?

    It IS yours!
When I have sold bikes with p/ps on them, I have just gone and paid the $8.00 and got a regular plate.
    Is the bike now deregistered?

Only written off on Friday so still sorting things out.

Busy negoiating with the insurance company re: payout.
I had an alarm fitted after the valuation of the bike for the insurance (which they stipulated I had to have fitted). However, they are not paying out the increase in value due to alarm but are now saying I can't take the alarm off the bike either. (The bike is already in the shop so can't get at it).

However, the insurance company appear to be coming around to my way of thinking after I threatend to cancel the insurance for 2 bikes, 4 cars, and 2 houses building and contents. Funny that!

There's an old saying... when you have someone by the balls, their heart and soul soon follows!
I would suggest just going to any LTSA agent, with your current reg papers, and shell out the $8.00 and get a regular plate. Sorted!
