I've just imported 2 sets of leathers and it's WAY cheaper than buying them here. Include the word closeout in your Google searches - that's the American word for sale. Just remember to add 12.5% GST to the final price, and, if you import from the UK, you should subtract 17.5% VAT (UK GST). Make sure you tell the seller in the UK to take 17.5% off, otherwise he'll be making a very tidy profit at your expense. If you're in a hurry it will cost about 80 pounds to ship. If you're not in a hurry it'll cost 30-50 pounds depending on the level of service you want. My advice is to get gloves boots and a back protector while you're at it. They seem cheaper in the UK too, and the shipping won't be much more than just the leathers. The're are some real bargins out there if you're willng to look around. All the best.

Just imported a 2-pc TZ-1 from www.motostrano.com. It came to just over $NZ1200 (including freight and GST). There is an exemption code for the duty otherwise its classed as apparel. (14%??)

They also have some closeout items as well.

That's right - if your leathers have armour and stuff in them you can say they are for race use and it will save you about 15% in duty that normally applies to leather apparel. Cool

Just be careful (it may depend whos the customs agent on the day) with duty...1-piece leathers don't get charged duty but 2-piece do as they are classed as seperate items...1-piece are classed as protective wear but it seems that 2-piece aren't...Add the 14% to your budget to be sure

both Ninjaboy, Paparizzie and me bought ours from www.motostrano.com if you are going to buy them I'll see if I can haggle / setup a KB discount. As we have bought a fair few things from them now collectively...

and 2 pcs leathers with hard internal armor can get the duty excemption.

    Cheers

Cheers for the info. I've just emailed Motostrano asking for detailed measurements on the V4 2-piece they have on sale for US$420.00... fingers crossed a pair will fit me 'cause that makes them a bloody deal, even when converted to NZ dollars.

How much was freight on your leathers and do you know how I go about ensuring that GST is or isn't charged correctly at this end?
Someday we'll look back on this, laugh nervously and change the subject.

Quite simple about the GST. Ring customs or have a look at their website and get a form that you have to fill out regarding importing one off goods. I have forgotten what it's called. On the form say what the goods are and what you are going to use them for (racing, of course) and send them a photocopy of your drivers licence too. They'll then give you a number. When the courier rings you to ask about customs clearance tell them your customs number and credit card number and you'll be laughing. Fraggle was asking about the V-4 too but they only had blue in size 44. Which is about 150-160 cm tall and about 55-65 kg. IE bloody small. They might have some others now though. Best to ring. In the end she got some dainese leathers from a very nice chap called mike at www.daineseclothing.com in the UK for 810 NZ dollars plus shipping and GST. If you send your sizes to www.dainese.com they'll recomend a size. I think you need to registrer on their site first.

Actually with Motostrano it was even easier that what Bartman detailed. With Motostrano the freight for a single suit came to $US85 shipped UPS international expidited. When it get here ( approx 3 days from when they actually ship ) UPS in NZ (or their agent) gives you a ring for payment of the GST. GST payable on anything over $NZ400. But quote exemption code 987531L chapter 4203 for the duty and they ask you to fax something to prove that the suit is armoured etc... eg. web page. Then pay for the GST with credit card.

You guys have any experience with importing boots? Can they be tax free as they are a protective item?
