And I don't believe that accidents are pre-destined.

Nobody is 100% safe from accidents at any time. It is how the associated risks are managed that determine how safe you are.

They are for some...or at least there are no prizes for predicting some riders' chances.
The rest of us, however, are still not immune, no matter how good etc we might be.

EDIT: You added to your post....that's what Inline and I are getting at.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

That's not the concept of pre-destined.

What you are talking about is motorcyclists riding in a manner that makes them an accident waiting to happen.

There are some who always manage ... by good luck/good fortune ... to always seem to be in the right place at the right time.

Over time ... this is (wrongly) interpreted by (some of) the same, to be because of their skill ....

You brought that up. Not Inline, or me. There is a big difference in the 2 concepts...
Inline stated (and I agreed with him) that no matter how good a rider one is, whether that be skilled bike control, sensible riding behaviour, or skilled observation and avoidance of hazards immediate or potential (any or all of these)...there MAY come an event that will over-ride any of that rider's abilities and THEN disaster may well be assured. It's not pre-destined or even likely...but it is possible.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Yeah, you keep believing that John if it makes you feel better.

Me? I'd prefer to concentrate on calling on any skill I might have to fight it out to the bitter end instead of rolling over and saying "Oh well, it was written in the stars".

I believe Inlinefour said "when you're in the wrong place at the wrong time there is nothing you can do about it".

I thought you were agreeing with him.

I was. In the sense that should something happen...no matter how good you are or what you do to get out of it...potentially there are times when you will be toast.

Not a cop out. Just realistic.
