Personally, I think the term - Harden the fuck up - is overrated and over used. Who really wants to be hard, there's far too much hardness in this world already, people need to start caring little more.

    Cheeky!!

    Kiwi chick - I think. Don't know - adopted.

Really, who wants to be hard.
Ok, we don't want to be hurt by the actions of others, don't be. We are all human, we all fuck it up, but harden up against the world, that's just wrong.

Getting over stuff, building the bridge.......easy. Let your anger go and your love flow. Whether the love be for yourself or towards another.

I find that bourban and loud music help.

    Depends on the situation....

Music (loud and lots of it!) focus on a goal, and exercise, so that's the mental and physical taken care of, Natural Endorphins, there's nothing better....Sun Surf and Sand works a treat too. Controlled adrenalin can certainly come in handy!

Also - realising that your situation isn't the worst that can happen, what ever it is, there is ALWAYS someone worse off than you.

hmmmm I find to build a bridge I actually have to go soft.
    - TooL (soft stuff), Chess the musical, Ben Harper...
    - Smirnoff Blue
    - Swing set in the local park

however if I have to harden up:
    - Offspring, Chevelle, Metallica (Whiskey in the Jar!), Breaking Benjamin...
    - Coke, V, Red-Bull...
    - Throw something with wheels around (including cars)
    - Biggest Punching bag I can find

Oh good points, Soft/Bridge building vs HTFU! Top Post is Getting Over something I guess...

Rage against the machine, old school Metallica, White Zombie, old school Shihad = HTFU Music. Something with Bass/RAAAAAARRRR

And to be fair the boxing bag is handy as!
Now I just have to find somewhere to hang it, where it doesn't crack the ceiling plaster....

Swings make me giggle (that funny feeling in the belly), does not fit into bridge building nor HTFU moments..

OOO OOO AND, old cracked plates/cups ...And that old stuffed videoplayer/Computer/chair, good for biffing and then sledging into teeny weeny pieces, done with safety approved goggles and gloves - of course

Expell those who don't deserve you from consciousness and strive for zen like compassion for idiots. My new ansaph message reflects the new policy "you have not reached dial a whipping girl, goodbye".

Go for a long run, a session at the gym, or some time with my cat (he never has any troubles).

What a bunch of soppy shit.

None of that crap is gonna help you in a road rage incident or bar-room brawl. Try telling a p'd-up psychopath to feel the love when he's sleep deprived for four days and thinks you're a three-headed monster after his Matchbox toy collection.

Tree hugging (which is what you're suggesting) often doesn't fucking work!

Slap the toddlers on the bum I say! Put them on the naughty step.

My two kids did a bit of the old self defence training, which I reckon is far more useful in the real world than trying to save a whale that will never return the favour. There are some harsh realities that need to be confronted/addressed in life and a cup of HTFU is occasionally required. Sure, you don't (shouldn't) have to beat the crap out of everyone but sometimes a punch is worth a thousand words.

I've diffused a heap of punchups at parties over the years and had (for a long time) a reputation for being good at breaking things up without too much aggro through diplomacy, but once in a while some twat just had it coming and human genes simply sort it out the primitive way. (Hopefully without weapons.)

Humans will always bash each other and to have some sort of ability to deal with that is just as important as putting two and two together.

Khama will bite your arse ! I hope it will be in time for your children to learn from this ! Go swim with the dolphin ! Popo or whatever his name is, will take your board, break your nose and make you swim to shore (Paybacks in reality would be a fine thing)
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

    Bowls can wait !

    It's ok, I have a hard arse.

My kids are fine; they are well adjusted and capable young women.

If recent news reports are accurate, dolphins are too aggressive to swim with. I'll just soak in the tub.

You raise some very valid points there. Sometimes the punch/slap/bash seems to be all that's left to sort some fuckers out. I've been known to do that on many occassions. But, I'm over that, it makes the world more voilent and I'm sick and tired of reading of another person killed just because someone couldn't get over something. Re: recent events in Nelson.

I'm no tree hugger, far from it, though I am becoming rather soppy of late. I believe I'm a better person for it too!

I won't be harden up, I'll soften up thank you very much.
