last time I was bucket racing (wiri/mt wellington)
You could basicly ride anything that wasn't a race bike-road or offroad. I checked the 09 rules and other than capacity that doesn't seem to have changed.
The reason Im asking is Ive got a couple of 150cc trailies from china.
I figure fitted with the apropriate teflon bits,lower bars and 17 inch wheeles laced in they would be a great b grade bucket.
Can anyone think of a reason why not?

Little trail bikes are great. I have more fun on the little DRZ125 than on my 450 around roys hill, but then again its a different sort of fun racing around on the FXR150 as well and same can be said of the 450.
The DRZ is perfect for getting mates out and around the track as its something they(motocross/off-road backgrounds) can relate to more than a road bike.

As long as there engines are derived from non-competion motorcycles (and those are the key words in from the rules in this case) and they fit within the capacity limits then there is absolutly nothing wrong with them.

Yep a trail bike sitting upright at Mt Welly would be great look how upright the quick boys are. I was completely knacked riding Ned Kellys RS chassis in the 2 hour and was lucky get through doing 2 x 1/2 hour stints without any mishaps and the top guys ran an hour each.

The other downside is that they could be under powered compared to a FXR 150, I know the Keeway has less power and torque than the FXR. Depends on how competitive you want to be and if reliability is an issue.

as he was saying they would make a good b grade bucket here in auckland, and hey with abetter rider they may even be ok in A grade. You dont need a lot of HP to be competative on our kart track

Well thats right, a lot of the time it is just down to the riders ability. Reliability would be the other thing, but most things seem to be made in china to a reasonable standard so may not turn out to be an issue at all. Worth a crack I'd say.
