Build me a PC

Looking for a budget yet future proof build. Only really need mobo, cpu and psu.
Im using price spy to check things out and so far have this.

Unsure on the PSU i have no idea what is considered normal these days. Been a few years since i was heavily involved with PCs.

Anything wrong with the mobo? CPU is pretty damn hardcore compared to my athlon xp 2500 but i may just get a cheapo phenom II. Anyone recommend Intel over AMD?

Also looking for a decent online shop. I see the site that has the cheapest prices has the worst rating. Looking to buy online so far my pics are notebookcity or pconlineshop.

You can build a PC to any budget.

If you want to future proof it then you need to avoid all the on-board devices and buy separate cards. Graphics is the number one issue.

Best to just put togther a cheap PC for what you want to do now and then dump it or relegate it to a meanial task unit (such as a file/print server), when your needs change and you need more umph.

No such thing as future proofing, The best you can hope for is compatibility with the next couple of cpu releases but there is zero guarantee that will be the case.

As it is most people generally don't swap out the CPU as an upgrade anyway.

It often costs far more to upgrade than to buy from new.

I realise future proofing is a silly term to use with PCs but i am still running AGP So for me having PCI-E is future proofing Also i am assuming DDR3 will soon be the norm so i might as well switch to that now. I upgrade my pc once every 5 years if im lucky.

Not too sure on what cpu to get. Fairly sure i am going to stick with the Phenom II over Intel. I think the X2 550 should do the trick.

+1 We often need cheap and fast boxes to use for testing stuff or as a second machine to sit under desk of developers (not production kit). We often buy from there as we save 000's and it dosnt matter if the box dies - they are cheap enough that we throw it out and just get a new one (talking fastest 64 bit cpu, 32gb ram, fast disk).

I have just purchased:
AMD Phenom II X2 550
and
Gigabyte MA770T-UD3P

from PB tech here in Hamilton.

$330 so not too bad. Cant do anything with it until i get some RAM though!
