Burg 400 riders?

Hi chaps,

I was out doing a ride around the block today ... (Whangarei - Kawakawa - Kaikohe - Opononi - Dargaville - Whangarei). The wind was a bit gusty, and had a bit of rain at the start of my ride, but it cleared up as I got further north.

I haven't done that ride for awhile, and I really enjoyed it. Nice sweeping curves, some quite fast spots, plus the ride down through the twisty Waipoua Forest ... generally a bit of everything .... on the seal anyway.

Had a couple of surprises today. I managed to ground the centre stand more than a few times when pushing through some tighter corners. That hadn't happened before ...
The alarming experience I had though was when coming down in speed, .. like throttling off from 120kmh or so, to negotiate a downhill turn. The back end started to wallow quite a bit, and on one occasion, the wallow got worse, and threatened to chuck me !! Had to grab a handfull of gas to straighten it out in a hurry !!

It seemed that it was mainly happening when I was unloading the power, but was not breaking, so it shouldn't have lost too much rear weight bias .... , but apparently it does !! Not something I'm used too, but this is my first bigger scoot .... so it may be a common issue ???

Anyone else had that experience on a 400 Burg, or similar style big scoot ??
I haven't had any previous bike I have owned, unload and wallow like that. I didn't like it !!
Apart from that, .... the Burg purred along, and was very comfortable to ride.

It's not a race bike.. it's a 200kg+ scooter with small wheels. And the engine is part of the unsprung weight.

gizzit mine does that all the time just have to get used to it ,was up your way sat gone should have poped in for a visit.

Mine has done that when going over speed humps. A bit disconcerting indeed. Now just take things a bit slower and don't have any issues.

Glad to hear that your still enjoying the ride. Don't worry the feeling doesnt rub off either so you are assured of many a good time.

Get out of here .... !!!! I could have sworn I saw Rossi punting one in the GP in Spain earlier this year .....

Point taken though. It's not a sports bike !!

Are you sure? I always thought the bigger scoots had the motor rigidly mounted.

The engine/trans/rear wheel lump is generally reckoned to be one of the defining feature of a scooter versus a motorbike...

The 650 does. As does the T max. The 400 doesn't.

The 400 can be hustled along at a reasonable pace, but it is just a big scooter, not a bike.
It's 200kg and about 29hp on small wheels. It does what it's made for well. It's not made to go fast and be chucked around twisty roads like an RS250.

Sure beats being in a car. Get me around town with minimal fuss. Couldn't ask for anything more

Yeah but I'm trying to loose weight, ..... and maybe ....I haven't got as much oomph as I used too have ....
