    Red face Advice please

Need some helpful advice my work has just got new cater's and i've been put on a 90 day trial apprantly its the law now.One of the Ladies I work with who is meant to be my friend (who is not now) is trying to stuff things up for me with the new bosses. This women Julie has no quilfations and she cooks in the mornings and i'm the chef at night.I've been working with her cause at the moment we have functions on.

My other very close friend said Julie feels threatened cause i've got quilifations i'm a chef and had a cv and the boss was impressed with and she hasn't got one and they also phones me up really quick and said i'd got the job.So anyway Julie has tied to get me in trouble 3 times now with the new boss which nearly happened.

Maureen said just ignore her and don't say anything or Julie will spread some bad words to the boss to get rid of me apprantly shes done it to someone else.So what to I do put up with the shit shes giving me or say something to her or the new boss but then it would make it worse.

    And I need the job!!!

    Thanks

    Nina

Is this Julie chick quite tight with the new boss? Is Julie also on a 90 day trial? It is not law that you have to be on a 90 day trial. Both parties must agree to the 90 day trial for it to be legal, however, if you don't agree, they'd probably just not hire you at all and have someone who will agree to the 90 days.
When you say that Julie has tried to get you in trouble 3 times now, is she setting you up or is she just trying to nark you out for genuine mistakes you've made?
If what your friend has said is true, chances are that Julie is already sabotaging you to the boss. My recommendation is that you organise a meeting with the boss and express your concerns re Julie causing a hostile work environment. If you have no proof of or witnesses to Julie's actions, you could probably just ask the boss to document the complaint and keep a closer eye on Julie's actions etc. If the boss organises a meeting with Julie, I guess the issue is out in the open but could really lead to an even more hostile work environment. Try to have a witness attend the meeting or consider a voice recorder. Make sure you don't suggest things like Julie is jealous because you have qualifications and she doesn't; that sort of thing doesn't go down well. I guess there's a lot more to the situation than you can describe here. You have to go with your gut about how to approach this situation and take advice here with a grain or kg of salt.
Good luck. Hope it all works out well for ya

If you are a decent chef you should be able to get another job no problem.

Setup a meeting with you, the boss and 'Julie', conduct it with courtesy and respect, rise above any silly comments, try to respond don't re-act, write everything down that you wish to address and go through each issue, finish each issue with an agreement or solve it, write the outcome of the meeting.

Mindful of the 90 day trial - log everything - dated, of any new problems if any, that could arise from then on in.

The best way is out in the open between all parties, and for all parties to agree that it's sorted, or needs solving and how to go about solving the issues.

    Otherwise the backstabbing will continue.

Or cut your losses and walk..

Careful there...don't want the boss thinking you are trying to organise him...and you don't want to make him nervous about a staff member who notes everything down....the be used as evidence in the future.

Umm, let me get this straight..... you have been working as a chef for a company but they now have new caterers performing the same duties? If this is so then you need to reseacrh the vulnerable workers act (google it).
The Vulnerable Workers act was put in place to protect people such as yourself and it means that the new caterers need to employee if you wish to continue.

The problem is with this new 90 day trial crap and how it affects that act. I would be getting advise from employment law type peoples....

Is it the same job at the same location, just new owners?

Then 90 law day may or may not apply as shown by a test case involving a pharmacy in the Hutt.

Having been on both sides of the camp, whilst I agree with the other advice you have had here, I'd like to suggest the following.

You need initially to give the new management some credit, I can assure you when a new management team come onto a site they also have new eyes and see an awful lot more background than you are possibly giving them credit for.

The will probably have already marked the other woman as a potential trouble maker, assuming you are doing a good job that is.

Its going to be hard but you are in very busy times at present, rise above her, ignore her, and do a good job yourself that will be noticed, don't lower your own standards by entering into an sort of petty behaviour but show off your potential and you will be recognised.
Don't judge me based upon your ignorance.

Agree with Phil-K 100% on this.

However I would still document things - date, time, what was said/done. Just don't make it known that you are doing this. This way, if that little shit "Julie" does compromise the working relationship with you and your boss, you will have documentation to back yourself should the shit hit the fan.

I'm quite sure the boss would appreciate the chance to resolve the issues - conducted in a professional manner first, rather than taking it outhouse!

But yes of course don't record in front of anyone. (should've clarified!)

If it ends up that the OP needs to talk to someone external, the first thing they'll usually ask is for a timeline of the issues or events logged anyway, better when it's fresh in the mind.

Just don't get dragged into anything petty, rise above it and continue to do the best at your job.

    Yeah what phil-k said.

Failing that, if you think she's still talking shit behind your back you've got to take action.
Next time you see her, yell "WHO'S THE BOSS??". If you dont get an instant response, drop to one knee and WHAM! sock that biatch in the beef-curtains hard while shouting "TONY DANZA!".

Dont take that crap lying down.

First, hope there's no chance of your colleagues/boss reading stuff on t'interweb....

Second, ring the Department of Labour (0800 20 90 20). I have dealt with them over a dispute I had with my employer (which I 'won' in the end). They were really helpful and supportive.

Also check what your Employment Agreement states around bullying/harassment as this is clearly what she is doing. Your company may have some form of policy/procedure and or guidelines on how to deal with the 5 year old you are currently working with
