Helmet cam- Kodak Zx1 mounting

Hi all

I just picked up a cheap HD cam to replace the aging Tachyon XC (non HD)
I always have the camera on the bike (just in case) and currently have a velcro pod stand on the tripple tree for the Tachyon to sit on.

My problem is the Guzzi's tinted windscreen really distorts the image and will kind of negate the use of a HD cam.(to a degree)

I have chosen the Zx1 because it uses AA batts, normal SDHC mem cards and is weather & shock proof (handy in winter)...and I got one for 50bucks!(new!)

A friend of mine has shown me some youtube vids of cameras being mounted inside the helmet!....either velcro'd on to the inner chin guard or "wedged" in the visor area!

This just scares the crap outta me!! (even though-"after testing"-neither option actually impairs vision!...to my amazement) and I do agree that the camera is safe from the elements inside the helmet, and it can record voice etc etc (Is it even legal??)
...but I store my BRAIN & FACE inside my helmet!, so the thought of a camera smashing through my nose in the event of an accident is kinda

So my otions are:
1.Stick with the orginal setup and just ignore the tinted screen issue
2.Drag out my other old camera mount and have it hanging off the side of the bike and destroy the lens with bugs lol
3.try the above and pray to what ever god that my face dosn't get smashed in!...and recorded in HD for the paramedics to laugh at.

My main reason for the camera is not to share vids or post etc, I call it my crash cam!...for when another drunken 4x4 driver punches me off the road and leaves me for dead! (I didn't get the pricks plate etc and Im still kinda pissed off the prick just drove off!...hence these measures, and its great for insurance claims etc)

So please my learnered KB friends, share your thoughts and knowledge on this one

I've used cameras stuck on the outside of the helmet without mishap. Trouble is, every head movement is recorded and viewing can kinda make you seasick if you look around a lot. Which you should be doing anyway I suppose.

Better mounted on the bike somewhere. Well, I think so anyway.

Cheers mate, yeah I used to have the tachyon mounted to the top off my helmet...but the wind noise, vibration and as you said -the nauseous picture, made me relocate it to the tripple tree.

Its a slow day in KB land, so bumpy bump!

(I actually like the chin mount option...it seems to be safer than I thought and provides a good view etc)

I don't really like the idea of camera parts lodging into my face. So the inside the helmet camera not for me. Won't be cutting up the helmet either as I have seem before.

yeah the thought of a camera smashing through ya face is a major put off ay (altho I am looking at a chin mount inside the helmet...but a safe one!)

Originally I brought a cam aimed with the notion of putting it on my helmet but it didn't really work out that well in terms of actually staying in place and view-ability. I've since mounted it onto the bike. Upside to this was that there was considerable less 'movement' as it was placed on the area between the handlebars.

I guess it ultimately depends on the product that determines where it will go.
