i must agree with 'scracha', a five hour ride and camp over night or very very early morning start for the mere 'possibility' of getting through the gates is bollox. id rather pay cash up front to secure my place, if im not there, then its my tough shit isnt it.

im sure many other people would feel the same.

The short one (3.033k) me thinks... as has always been the case.

Now for my main reason for posting:

Sadly I won't be at this one, as I have to be somewhere else!

You guys do a great job, and it is always chaos on the very sunny days due to fine weather riders.

The thing is Manfeild actually offers a very high amount of grip in the wet.
It is the perfect opportunity to learn to ride (Improve your riding) in the rain, BEFORE you get caught out in the wet on the road. Very dangerous on the road if you have a phobia and tense up while getting wet.
Brings me to a Billy Connolly quite: "There is no such thing as bad weather, just WRONG CLOTHES!"
Otherwise all of scratcha's clan back home would be living a very miserable life indeed...

That's fine - there are other track days where you can prebook and it is your choice if you want to ride five hours to attend ours. It is our club's choice to not take prebookings and we never have a shortage of people turning up on the day from the lower North Island. We are NOT interested in taking prebookings and finding half the people don't turn up and we have to try and match bookings with those who turn up before we can offer places to those who came anyway.

It has been our policy for the majority of our track days to NOT take prebookings. Moan all you like, but that policy won't change. There are some people who will only turn up if the weather is fine and some who will turn up regardless and we take the risk of losing money by not offering prebookings. But so far we haven't had any problems so we're happy to carry on the way we are and please those who do come along.

That sounds a tad arrogant. I hope you do please everyone who comes along and that nobody is turned away. Hope everyone has fun at the trackday and there's not too many crashes :-)

to be fair. your allowed to be arrogant when you get the turnout these guys get. Its always packed and really well run. my only complaint (as with others) is the chance of missing out.

well, I was using "arrogant" in the same context that scratca was. I am not sure its the right word TBH. but arrogant in the sense that.. we make the rules.. like it or lump it cause everyone is going to show up anyhow.

For the record, Last year I arrived just after 7am, and the queue was already out Rata st. i was the second bike to be scruniteered at 8.35am. It was worth the wait.

I'll be on my way to palmy shortly !!
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

    Bowls can wait !

I wasn't trying to be arrogant, I was just stating the facts. We can't please everyone and we'd go mad trying. If we take prebookings we upset those who want to decide on the day if they are coming and it means a lot of extra work for us. We're all club members and as such volunteers - we don't get paid for all the hours we put in so if we don't want to arse around trying to please everyone, that's not being arrogant, that's being honest! I also hope there are no crashes! (Because if there are, we'll hear all the moans about less track time...)

I agree with you about the BE EARLY part but again, this isn't being arrogant, it's stating the facts. You know I am not one to ride roughshod over people and I'm disappointed you think that's what I was trying to do. As a committee member - like you - this was run past the committee member I live with and his wording was probably even stronger. He's been doing this for more than 20 years so he's heard it all before. Every year we get a huge turnout and unless we want to start running this as a business, taking prebookings and hiring someone to deal with all the shit, then everyone who wants to take part has to put up with how the club decides to run it.

Methinks you jest, in the hope of getting the track all to yourself! Just saw the TV1 weather forecast for tomorrow and it's looking bloody brilliant. Highs of about 20 for the Manawatu (although we all know Manfeild has a microclimate all of its own!) and the southerly dying out and being replaced by a westerly. Strong winds forecast for Wellington and Wairarapa though, so take care those of you travelling up from there.

    Don't forget your sunscreen!
