Hi all, this is my first posting here so if I screw it up, be nice. Wan't to give many thanks to those who orginised the ride on the 14th. My mate and I saw bikes heading south and hooked up with you lot at the BP. Excellant ride and well organised. From a new arrival to the scene perspective it was awsome to see such a selection of riders and machines. I havn't been on two wheels long so it was also nice to see that when someone managed to make a mistake and ditch their machine that lots run to give assistance.

All good and will be doing it again. Hope to see you arround.
Welcome capt -- see you around.

All in all, I'd say they did alright.

DanB is doing okay, just needs to get a little more confidence in the corners, but his one fault that I did pick up on (as did everyone else) is that he had a slight lack of "surface awareness". Braking in loose gravel isn't the best mate (piccie to follow in the Pics thread of the aftermath). And whats with Waikato councils stupid "hide the roadworks" game? Some of those weren't signposted at all and some were posted about 5 metres from the loose crap.

Ricksta, Ricksta, Ricksta. Oh dear, where do we begin. The off after the stop where DanB came a cropper was pretty much the same as what happened last week. Lean boy!! Otherwise, you're doing okay, just seriously consider getting the safety gear that I mentioned ASAP. As a refresher it was:

    - High Boots: sneakers are not good to ride in. Soles can get ripped off, ankles have no support and can break, shins not protected etc

    - Armoured pants: make sure you get ones with hip pads, knee armour, reinforced arse etc

    - Pack rack: this one I think should be a must for anyone who carries a lot of gear. If you have stuff in a backpack and it moves when you're in a corner, the centre of gravity shifts and can low side you quite happily. Get your hevy bits (cameras, clothing, etc) on a rack and strap it down tight to stop it moving.

Last but not least (and this goes to al noobs), GET ON A HANDLING COURSE ASAP. The Bronz (www.bronz.org.nz) Ride Right, Ride Safe course kicks arse and is cheap to boot. Some of the commercial courses are very good (John wotsizname) but some are average to say the least (Passrite anyone?).
Great post man. Max respect goes out to you for helping and staying with the n00bs on Saturday!

    Interesting thread.

As I posted on another thread - if you feel compelled to 'keep up' with faster riders and this results in you exceeding your limits - you have no one else to blame other than yourself if you fall off (or worse).

It is anyone's personal choice to ride fast.....shit next you will be wanting MotoGP banned as all these noobs will go out and try and replicate it on the street. Fuck - assume some personal accountability for once.

People that succumb to this are the same people who had their first puff of pot 'coz all their friends made them'.

I make no apologies for saying - if you die because you choose to outride your limits in a vain attempt to prove you were a good rider by keeping up with someone who is better than you, and you can't just admit it and ride to your own abilities - you have no-one to blame other than yourself. No one else is twisting your throttle.

When MR, TS, WT, me or whoever ride quick - you make a personal choice to accept the consequences for themselves. As does anyone else that does it. If you can't exercise will power...sell your fucken bike (i can say this, because i couldn't and did).

On every group ride I have been on - it is explicitly pointed out to 'ride at your own pace'.

MR - don't fucken listen to them - ride the fucken pants off your bike....just look after yourself and stay rubber side down (or at least say 45-50deg to the road anyway)

    Cheers man.

I'd like to think that I am fairly open minded and I wouldn't have stood my ground so strongly or I would have questioned myself more if it wasn't for the tons of PM's and phone calls (the next day) and the support in the threads from pretty much everyone who was in that ride and who has seen me ride on the road and my group rides and plus some who have understood what went down just from the net only. Even the people who crashed reckoned that once they are sused, they would like to come and ride with us again!

Funnily enough, all the critics have been:

A: People who weren't on the ride.
B: Haven't seen me ride on the road or been to any of my rides.

That was enough for me to stand my ground, I think.

Anyway, as I said in the other post, what's been and done is over. We all learnt our lessions which is the most important part.

Hey man, at this stage there is too much stuff, both in this thread and the other one. There is so much that was said that for anyone it is too dificult too make sence of it all now.

Basically what started from an acusation (which is now resolved since both parties have now appologised to each other via PMs), a long heated descussion was formed. It was obviously fueld with a lot of emotion from the recent loss of our mate Flyin and the fact that I was the organiser and was the person in question because of that (not in this thread but the other one).

I for one will admit that though I may not have been questioned personally as much as I thought I was being questioned in my mind, I probably got emotional about it, as normally you already feel guilty and responcible as an organiser wether you are at fault or not. Whitetrash knows this feeling when he organised that Welly ride the Easter before last and there were a few crashes there as well. He was vunerable just as I was to accusations and he did get emotional back then just as I did.

Now everyone has calm down and come to their sences including me. There really isn't anymore to be said and my previous post in this thread was my final concluesion for the whole matter. I wasn't going to post anything else but I thought it would have been rude not to answer your question.

    MR.

He asked the same question before as well in this thread and though it might have been semi-PT this time round, I think D was just wondering why there was so much hype about "MR". Which is why I explained...
