Thanks to MR for a great day

First time I've gone back up 22 and loved it. Hope those who had misfortune are all ok, the KB's spirit was great.

To Zed and guy on the Yamaha (hopeless at names) thanks for the company from the last stop on 22 back to the Puke/Motorway turnoff, great run with out pushing it.

    cheers

WTF. Sorry, don't tell me they were all "minor crashs". There is no such thing as a minor crash. At this rate it's only a matter of time before someone doesn't get up from one of these "minor crashs".

For the sake of all the biker gods, SLOW THE FUCK DOWN. At least on the corners.
The crashes were not all new riders!

Fairy nuff. Sportsbike, dirt bike, cruiser...whateva tickles your fancy Alex!

Now you mention it, when I got onto Old Gt Sth Rd, Runciman on my way home tonight I saw in the distance a dirt bike doing donuts in the gravel (looked really skilled at it too) and then he came towards me and pulled a nice big wheelie - so I felt the need to respond in like manner, we both passed eachother on one wheel...was a special moment to end the day.

No KB rides are not races. You ride at what pace you are comfortable with. KB'ers always have stops where we WAIT for EVERYONE to catch up.

MotoRacer races in F1 & F2, TwoSmoker in F3, and others in equally competitive arenas.

If you want to keep up with these people and you aren't equally talented....THEN THAT'S YOUR CHOICE.

And I do think that the more experienced riders do have a part to play in the slowing down of the new chums. If not for reasons of responsibility and humanity, then for purely selfish ones. If some young kid buys it on SH22, you can guarantee there'll be such a police presence on that road that no-one will want to ride it for a long time to come
Yep mate i agree, BUT the 3 supposedly minor crashes (although i agree with you when you say no crashes are minor) were not due to speed, but inexperience. We recommended that they didnt come, but the persisted (and good for you guys ) and under the watchful eye of John on his Dragstar (cheers mate) rode down SH22... There is nothing MR and I could have done to prevent those crashes...

Not at all mate, it is a group ride, it is just that there is such a large range of paces... Dont be put off at all... Bins arent due to the pace of the ride, but the rider themselves...

just reading thru the threads and watched that vid from Pyro.

Guys (well, newbies) - LEAN!!!!!! goddamnit. You have heaps of grip, don't be afraid to lean, lean, then lean some more. If it's all going to be over, it'd hurt less if it's a low side (slide) than a high side (flip over the top) or running head on into sidings, plus it shows that you were attempting to do all you could prior to a 'moment'. It's something that comes with experiance, but I've seen it too many times. LEAN!!!!!!!!!! You've most likely got more grip than you can imagine.

And Pyro, just a quick obv - while it was good of you to stop for Ricksta (?) when we ran wide (lean dude..), you ditched your bike on the wrong side of the road on a blind corner. Really not the best idea. In the event of situations, there's no point in creating more casualties and crashes from people not thinking things thru properly. I know you wanted to help, but you're no good if you're plastered over the front of an oncoming car.. Just breathe and think a little more before hand. But good for stopping.

Please watch out guys.. Newbies, ride in your shoes, not someone else's. It takes a long time on the saddle to fill boots to go fast. Grow into yours at your pace, not at someone else's. 9 times out of 10, you'll fuck up.

Anyway, don't be put off by large rides etc. It's often the best place to pick up the most skill. This has to be one of the 'worst' rides for bins that I've read about. It's not normally that eventful. The worst thing you can do is not attend these rides if you can. You'll learn more things from more people this way..

Maybe you should actually come out on a KB ride instead of reading about it then...at least then you'd be able to say "been there done that"!

There are a plenty of posts on KB that give the reader a false impression btw. KB rides are not races!

Nothing there aimed at you in the slightest fella, you may not of had a 'moment' but others did..... something we all need to think about.

ps: remember it has happened on a chch ride in the past too

Nice speech BJ, pity you stayed up late last night and couldn't join us!

The way you guys are portraying these bins today is over the top, and you ones that are giving out the advice weren't even there! It's a different scene when you're actually there talking to the binner and discussing what went wrong...you wouldn't dare tell them off or make some of the comments you've said to their faces at the time.

In general, everyone had a great time on the KB ride today I'm sure. Don't take that away from us by your righteous indignation!

Yeah and I thought the guys who binned were very courageous picking up their bikes and riding on

Ive had a few bins in my time and I know what it can do to your nerve and confidence when you find yourself lying on the road!
