    I've always found it funny when people on the internet think they are 'witty' when taking the piss. See the fine art of wit, and it is an art, requires for good effectiveness the use of body language and tone of voice. As neither can be used on the internet this unfortunately opens up wit to be used by those that in an actual social setting would struggle to think of something funny to respond with in the same evening.

    A whole new set of tools must be formed, one of which is the smilies, or embedding other images. It's a whole new beginning, mind you, I think many didn't have much of a witty beginning to begin with.

    It is a new beginning, however subtlety is mostly lost on the internet. It can be mastered, and be highly effective. However most fall far below the bar.
