i had to return my tent,,,and they wouldnt give me cash,,,dont know why, i gave them cash..bastards.

so they gave me a heap of $20 gift vouchers..

so if you like to shop at Kathmandu, i would very much like to sell my vouchers,
I have eight $20 vouchers for sale..

My thoughts as well,re CGA for faults in goods,they can offer store credit or honour cash refund if customer wants,and proves payment was via cash not vouchers.

They have to give you a full cash refund upon request (from you) if the goods are faulty. If you simply changed your mind then they are within their rights to give gift vouchers.

What was wrong with the tent? i.e. why was it you "had" to return it? (Because if it was faulty, they have to give your money back. Store policy, as JD and others noted, does not override the law.)

A guy I work with bought a half-price jacket there (on sale).

It was faulty so he went to swap it, but they wouldn't let him swap as the sale was over and the jackets were now twice the price they were when he bought it.

So they refunded his money - at the current full (twice what he paid) price!

The consumer guarantee act says that if an item is faulty the retailer has the right to fix it in a reasonable time frame or replace or refund . if you just decide you do not want something they are under no obligation whatsoever to refund whether it be in vouchers or cash, but most places do give a refund in some form or another because they want that customer to come back one day.

yes 12 months, tent was unsuitable for my needs.

I think that means "tough luck" then, in terms of cash refund.

(Unless, maybe, you could prove that the advertising of the tent was misleading so you were not responsible for the unsuitability. e.g. they said "sleeps three people", and you needed a three person tent, but it turned out once you saw it assembled that they meant three circus midgets.)
