Yeah this is very true. Always be aware the medias' job is to inflate and sensationalise, and wind your feelings up.

I don't let it affect me now.

Upon inspection, to my dismay, I realized it was the next door neighbors' daughter's rabbit. For years I had watch her come home from school and head straight out to its cage, free it and play with it in the garden. I knew today would be no different and fearing for our dog, I had to think fast.
The rabbit was quite dirty, as if it had put up quite a struggle, so I washed it off with the hose, combed it with the Dog brush and blew it dry with the leaf blower. Upon finishing its grooming I jumped the fence and replaced back in its cage hoping its death would be written off as "natural causes".
Within the hour the neighbor's car pulled in and out popped the little girl, and as usual she headed straight for the cage. Only this time she stopped about six feet away and screamed "DDDDDAAAADDDDDDDYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Her father, panic stricken, stood looking at the cage. Being the good neighbour that I am I rushed to fence and asked if there was anything I could do.
Her father less than calmly blurted, "What kind of sick individual would dig up a little girl's dead rabbit and put it back in it's cage?"
I hope you learnt your lesson!

Just because there are more reports in the news absolutely does NOT mean that there are more attacks occuring. Does anyone remember a few years ago, when there was a whole series of dog attacks on young children, and everyone was crying to have some breeds banned, stronger dog control laws, etc? Turned out that in fact the number of dog attacks over those few months were significantly LESS than over the same period in the previous year. But, someone made one into a news story, suddenly someone hears of another and does a folowup story, and you get public paranoia despite the fact that attacks were decreasing.
Not saying that the number of incidents haven't necessarily gone up. But don't base your claims on the number of media reportings, please.

Whether it is the focus of the media or not doesn't make it any less of a bad thing. I actually think it is good that they bring something like this to our attention and people in organisations like the spca etc get the help they deserve from Joe Public. I know it's a media beat up but in this case at least I think the cause is more than worthy.

Nothing I despise more than animal cruelty - It takes a cold hearted coward to do that sort of thing

one major problem with child abuse seems to be that cyfs and the cops dont give a shit. my niece and nephews live with their "mother" most of the time.
my niece is just 4 and has started referring to her mother as a bitch and a dick. my nephews are 2 and 1 and not yet talking. the niece and the 2 year old were here one day, and the boy tripped on a mat. luce flew to his defence, teling her grandmother "dont push my brother." it was obviously not the first time she had done it, so they must get slapped around. neither of these kids want to go home... the baby cant say either way cos hes too little. we have called cyfs on her so many times, once was after they got given to their dad with their hands and faces covered in small sores. the result, as admitted to him by the so called mother, after they picked some of her hot drug knives. cyfs didnt care.

if the authorities did what they are meant to, instead of sweeping the kids under the mat, maybe the child death rates might not be so high. i think they also need to stop placing kids with extended family unless those people have been properly checked. if luce and the boys did get removed, itd be just our luck they would end up with her parents, who are worse than she is.

Yeah, but the point is, they intentionally wave it in front of you expressly for their own purpose - and that is to ruin your self-esteem.

You can't do a huge amount about the wrong or right in the world, except what's in your back yard, so repeatedly contemplating all the wrong and horrific things does far more harm than good. Collective society would be far better served to ignore the bad and concentrate on positive self-esteem work towards the common good.

Sadly it won't happen unless legislation acts to prevent them, because if it happened on TV then its real. I do wonder if people are beginning to get it though. I hope so.

The think the bigger point is that the introduction of a police state requires the need for that state to exist.... a bit like job creation, or revolving door medicine......

we now have a situation where we can increase the peoples well being immensely, and shoot sickness and desease away bar the genetically weak.......that is not what world leaders want.....

All support organisations such as the police should be designed to engineer themselves out of business, by actually fixing the problem. It's fun watching them squirm when they inadvertently DO fix the problem, but overall I think they would rather perpetuate the industry and even grow it, than face going out of business. We see the same things with police morale - at a low when there is nothing to do, and at a high during a crisis - so what do you think they prefer?

It's only when you take the piss out of a partially shaved wookie with an overactive 'me' gene and stapled on piss flaps that it becomes a problem.
