Help - Collapsed bearing!

As you may have guessed from the title, Im talking about a dirty old XR200. My Flatmates bike is probably not what you would call mint.
Just after new years I took the wheel off to have tyre changed, the axle never came out but I didn't worry about that cause those old bikes dont have a captured axle and the wheel came off anyways.
Unfortunatly now the bearing has collapsed and I am probably better off replacing the rim.

Problem? No one has a 17" XR rim in CHristchurch, or on trademe by the looks of it. So please if anyone has one in their shed they forgot about that they are willing to sell I would very much appreciate it. It would be awesome if it didn't cost more than the bike is worth also but I know I can't get too picky. My Flattie is dying to get out riding again. I know Im not going to get much sympathy since I should have done the bearing a week ago but This girl is feeding a hungry bike-riding addiction with a limited budget so would be good to get her back on it again.

You could try asking Don at pit lane, hes got tons a shit out the back from a bygone wrecker... havnt seen any trail bike stuf but then I have never looked for it.

if its run the bearing outer and damaged the rim, maybe you can have it machined out and fit a larger bearing?

For a older dirtbike wheel, it probably doesnt matter that much, and I'd be tempted to just boof another bearing in it and ride it.

Changing wheel bearings is par for the course on dirtbikes as they get water in them & fail. Bearings cost very little from bearing supplier or even Repco (number of bearing on side like 6403 or whatever).

Sorry what is the problem? The bearing doesn't come out? Punch the old bearing out from the other side by moving the spacer over bit by bit. It will take an age but with a sharp edge punch a bit at a time will happen. Some heat from a fan heater can help. If the inner has fallen apart & the outer is left in there you can get someone to run a ring of weld with a mig which will shrink the bearing so it can fall out.

If the problem is that the bearing has flogged out the hub resulting in the bearing not being held securely there is a fix you could try.

Go around the inside of the hub with a centre punch making as many dimples as you can fit on the surface that holds the bearing. By making these dimples you're effectively raising the metal around the dimples. Coat the dimpled surface with some Loctite bearing retainer and tap in the new bearing.

Not the flashest of fixes but it is only an XR200 after all.
