    MotoTT 16/1/2010 trackday/crash report

Not much to report, my first track day in group 1. It's impressive being passed around the outside in turn 8!

I stuffed up in session 4, misjudged the bike in front's corner speed, got too close, grabbed the front brake and down I went in turn 5. When I first saw the video, I thought I might've nicked his rear tyre from the noise, but on further inspection it looks like I was too far away for that which is good.

No damage to me, some more scratches on the bike plus broken brake lever and rearset. Lesson learned: be more patient and allow more room when coming up on slower bikes.

With help from Chris we straightened the rearset a little and I had a spare lever, so I was able to do session 5. I missed the last mixed session because the weather scared me off, it looked like it was about to rain heavily so I got the bike in the van, but then it cleared up .

I really want to make a new fuel tank for the sv because with the standard one my knee hits the wide bit above the cut-out and the back of the tank pushes against my thigh when I'm hanging off, which makes my outside foot slide off the peg so I can't put all my weight on it.

Was good to see you in G1 Eric but from where I was sitting you didn't look to be on form like you usually are. Was gutted to see you went down.
Best of luck with making a new tank.

Buggar................when your hanging off try moving back in the seat leaving a fist sized gap between your crotch and the tank, that allows your thigh to grip the side of the tank better. Do you hook your heel into the peg on the outside? That'll give more leg room on the tank and give better purchase against the ouside of the bike...............................disregard if thats how ya already ride

I think I'm already too far back. I've experimented with having the ball of my foot on the peg or the peg under the arch of my foot, but I think it was similar. I'm pretty sure I've got to change the tank to get my body position right and weight on the outside peg.

Don't you hate n00bs that can't hold corner speed! I think you should get a TRX850 and then you'll be a happy boy.

where opinion holds more weight than fact.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.
