    Didn't make the 100,000km milestone

I was trying to get 100,000 km out of the original chain on my bandit, but at 92,200 km a collapsed bush has put paid to that.
After 92,200 km the chain has elongated only 10 mm over 110 links. The acceptable wear limit is more than 20 mm.If the bush had not failed the chain would still be serviceable.
The chain adjusters were moved only 5 mm over the 92,200 km.

That's impressive! What do you put that down to, the type of chain or good regular adjusting and/or lubeing?

I'd make a claim under warranty if I were you. My BMW R1100GS has 128000km's and I haven't replaced a chain yet.

Doing better than my Guzzi then. Rooted drive shaft and pinion splines at 85k. Repair cost estimated at least $800 so far. Would be up to $2k if i bought new crown wheel and pinion set plus drive shaft. Lack of maintenance by previous owners is something to be wary of.

The OEM is an RK X or XW type by the looks of it,probably reasonable quality.
I rarely needed to adjust it.Even when changing tyres,I usually refitted the wheel without having to move the adjusters.
I have one of my oilers on the bike and use motor oil as the lube.

I was surprised by the amount of wear on the output shaft sprocket.I expected the rear sprocket to be a good indicator of the expected wear on the front sprocket.
I probably should have replaced the sprockets at 50,000 km.

My rear tyre wear would beg to differ.

Nope... due to the gearing ratio roughly 3:1 on most bikes, the front sprocket cops 3 times the wear. To compensate, they are often made of harder materials than rears.

The 640A gets 2x front sprockets per rear & chain, running OEM KTM steel sprockets.
    Cheers,

Why would that make a difference? Do people who own Gixxer thous and pull wheelies not regularly lube and adjust their chains?

I do............ I do! Not the wheelies, but lube the chain. Probably more than it needs. I have an RK and its only been on for about 13,000 km, and is going to need replacement soon.

yes, it does have something to do with riding style etc.

I've never heard of anyone getting 100k out of a chain......... I've gone through about 4 chains in 12 years of riding different bikes (some new bikes)

Impressive. The Connie's one has only done 46,000km - but I've never adjusted it...

Made even more impressive considering you never lube it either

thats damn good, i was getting about 4000 miles out of a chain in the uk (dirty salty roads) and as low as 2000 miles with a did x ring chain,
my fully enclosed chain on my mz500 is still the original and has clocked up 50000 km, so got a fair while yet to catch up,
