The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

I'm presuming you don't have access to one, excuse me if I'm out of line. You'll have it for the rest of your life and there'll never be any questoin about tightening anything on any bike. In my experience as an engineer, so many people (trades also) over thighten the hell out things. Which ultimately puts fastners beyond their 'yeild' points, and consequently give less clamping power. Or something else bad, as in your case.

The only other people I know personally with a torque wrench are a couple of mates (also engineers). I think some shops have them but (sometimes) don't use them, as I found out when I broke a socket trying to remove the sump plug from the Trumpy! After it's first service. 25Nm the book says. I reckon they had a spotty kid on a 6 foot bar tightening that f*cker!!

Anyway I'm sure you know of them. Just saying that after ten or so years of use, $300 won't look like very much.

Best of luck to ya anyway, MK
No prob's mate. Yep, am familiar with said instrument, even have one in the shed. As I mentioned in the original post I know the tightening torque is critical, (12-16Nm depending who you talk to: Mr Ohlins or Mr WP) but in trying to balance shed time and family time (I would have only seen my partner for 7 days in 9 weeks if things had gone to plan) I simply haven't gone over bike as comprehensively as I should since recently picking it up. As I said there are lotsa coulda/shoulda/woulda thoughts rollin' round in my head. I can only use the experience and hopefully recognise the symptoms down the track.

I'll be at Manfeild alright, even if it's in Clubman's on a streetfightered GSXR. Most parts are on their way, so it's just fingers crossed. Hopefully everything will arrive in time and if someone kindly throws in a bigger set of cojones to replace my now shrunken plums I'll enter Superbikes.

Mate if it makes you feel better (hope it does) i did the entire 07 mationals with a front end in my bike set up for a busa and a 150kg rider. When It was taken to bits the guy that did it found nothing mechanically wrong Just unbelievably totally wrong setup for a lil bloke on a SV650. Shaun waited 3 rounds for me to actually ask for help -meanwhile I was busy blaming my shittyu attitude for the bad results.

Im in the same ball game there Frosty, I had my front end set up by someone else and its shit aye, pushes the front wide in corners and when I did soften it up to manage corners nicely it bottoms out under brakes... And ive got the Ohlins cartridge kit up front, which is getn taken out as the standard front end on the R1 was sweet as for all round use...
Ohlins Cartridge kit for sale for an 04-06 R1 if anyone interested... one careful owner
