Where is the best deal on a new tyre

My bike is in for a service today and the eagle-eyed service guy spotted a nail in my rear tyre. Actually quite a long nail, so the pointed end had been working inside the tyre and made a big mess. So I need to buy a new tyre and it's not a common size 170/80-15 Does anyone know where the best new tyre deals are to be found in the Auckland area ?

A point of order here..... If you are happy with the charistics and the wear of the ME880R, then is it really worth skimping $30 to get a slightly better Deal?
The Bridgestone might be alright though... BUT if it were me, and I have had Metzilers (which I have), I would actually stick with them... It would pay on my mind that $250 seemed a little too good to be true....
In fact, $80 isn't really worth skimping on something you would prefer.

Thanks for your thoughts, and hard to argue with your logic. In the end availability played a role in my decision as I needed to get a replacement tyre to my service shop today. My available options came down to an Avon or Bridgestone for the rear and I went for the Bridgestone. The guy I spoke to at Cycletreads was excellent and not only did he give me a very keen price on the Bridgestone (under $200) he also quizzed me about the front tyre to check that I was going to end up with a good match. Turns out that the previous owner had fitted a tyre on the front that was totally unsuitable for my bike. (confirmed by another source, so not just good salesmanship) So I ended up buying a new front tyre as well, and applying your logic I went for a Metziler which was the most expensive option he offered, but I feel good value.

I did shop around a little today, but I would reinforce Anthrax's initial suggestion that Cycletreads is the place to go.

Glad you asked his question as I too am in need for a new set of tyres and had never heard of Cycletreads (sheltered life), so will be getting in contact with thm. How much is a fair price to pay to get the m fitted???
