Is group 4 for people who are novices and only want to go slow or are slow by initial ability? I've never track dayed and don't know if 3 or 4 is better suited for my needs... I want to go fast but imagine I won't be initially (maybe ever!!!)

I would say yes and yes. They (because I pretty am one of them) are those with basic bike handling skills.

You can't go fast by simply pulling back hard on the throttle. You get faster the better you can handle your bike.

If you find yourself completely in the wrong group on the day, you can simply talk to an instructor and they will arrange to have you moved to a more suitable group.

See you in group 2! I will not be moving from that group as I can't go any lower (1050cc doesn't go into the 600cc restriction) and I will not be skilled enough to move up into the quicker group.

Note that for the upcoming ART day if you have a two piece then it MUST zip together or you can't go on the track.

    - One or two piece riding gear (leather preferred), two piece suits MUST zip up – this will be strictly enforced from the April ART event
    - Back protector (a small number available for hire at the track)
    - Over ankle boots
    - Gloves
    - Helmet

Should you wear a two piece suit that does not zip up, we recommend you contact Kerrie at MSW (Motorcycle Safety Wear), Basement One, Saint Kevin’s Arcade, 183 Karangahape Road, Auckland (09) 309 9522, email kerrie@orcon.net.nz to arrange to have zips put into your suit.

Probably a stupid question but would a leather Jacket zipped to cordura pants be fine?

Sure would. What they don't want is the possibility of your naked back being exposed to the track.
