RF900rr ignition - help!

ok....whew...where do i start...lol got a 94 rf900rr when it was brought home, started her up and the battery was drained so i got a charger/maintainer, then went my fiance went to put the battery back in and broke the key, so we were told to get the key replaced we had to try and have a new one cut(which posed a problem because the key was in 2 pieces) or take out the ignition switch and have a cast mad of the tumblers. my fiance knowing alittle about bikes went to go and take out the ignition switch while the locksmith was working on the new key....success!!! the new key worked, or so we thought...the keyed turned all the way to the on position but the bike didnt start, no power, no lights...nothing. i noticed when he took a side piece off the bike there was a wire with a white plastic female end dangling in front of the gas tank...trying to figure out if that wire has anything to do with why the bike now doesnt start...the battery is fully charged and all the fuses are good...i looked in the service repair manual and its a bad copy, looks like someone copied it from paper to a cd/dvd and it is just bad quality....if anyone has any ideas please help, i would greatly appreciate it...

unless you know about electrics on a bike I would suggest you take it to your nearest motorbike dealer to get it fixed.

Check the usual? Kill switch. Bike in gear. Side stand down.

yeah i tried all that, checked batt, checked fuses, made sure theres gas in the tank...the key goes in and moves to the on position, but nothing happens after that...

you have a valid point, i was just hoping that i could find someone who knew rf900 wiring and i would have to go through the hassle of taking her to a mechanic, was hoping it was a "motorcycles for dummies" type thing...lol

Dumb std acrobat won't let me extract the one page wiring diagram. Either way you obviously have a major fault if there is no power getting through to the dash. Got to be pretty easy to find.

Check if you are getting power to the ignition switch & if it is comnig out as a starting point. Measure every fuse, heck I can't remember if there is a separate main fuse. Strip the tank etc off, pig of a job but you would just be paying someone else to do it. The spare wire could be fuel sender or anything. I might remember a 'spare', but too long ago. It won't be it.

even though my volt meter said 12v, the battery was infact flat,
have you got some jumper leads?? hook them up and try again,

still no go, then see if you have 12v on the ignition switch, the red wire i think. if not, then its your main fuse on the starter relay (solenoid)
if so then check you have 12v on the fuses (key on) if not then its the orange wire from the ignition to the fuses,

have you got some jumper leads?? hook them up and try again,

still no go, then see if you have 12v on the ignition switch, the red wire i think. if not, then its your main fuse on the starter relay (solenoid)
if so then check you have 12v on the fuses (key on) if not then its the orange wire from the ignition to the fuses,

12 volts often ain't enough and is often indicative of a charging or battery problem. You should have about 14 volts.

With suzukis don't you have to hold the clutch in to start them, even if in neutral?

yes you do...thats not the problem though...lol believe me that was the first thing i tried. the key moves to the on postion in the ignition, the bike doesnt start.

well i bought a battery charger/ maintainer...the batt is reading something over 12 v and is charged to 100% it maintains the charge and everything, i just really think it has something to do with this wire...

Guys the big issue is the dash is devoid of power, no lights nothing.

PS my RF charged at 14.5V, highest I've seen reg voltage set to, but there you go.
