Essential info for the newbies to SASS:
South Auckland Street Skills or SASS

WHAT: Learning and improving Riding Skills
    WHEN: Tuesday Nights
WHERE: Meet at Z (ex-Shell) Service Station, Cnr Great South Road and Taka St, TAKANINI (the one with a Burger King)
WHO: Riders new and old, and anyone getting back into Motorcycling (must be legal & hold a motorcycle license).
Weather and venue permitting - Heavy Rain may mean that we are watching DVDs. Showers are OK, look on the thread for more up-to-date information.
Depending on the number of riders and their experience levels, a short ride may be included to practice further skills. If there are enough riders, some nights can be split into two different groups.

    Some nights may include:
Practicing essential skills and techniques in a quiet carpark
On-the-road practice which may see you doing up to a 1hr - 1 1/2hr ride.

    WHY:
    - Practice essential skills for staying alive on the road.
    - Practical help with your riding.
    - Fun times with fellow riders, with great stories and discussions.
    - Build friendships, solicit advice and pick-up riding tips.

MEET at Z station Takanini -----------> before 6.55pm

    START ride -----------------------------> 7pm

FINISH ride at ex-Manukau City Council car park for slow-speed safety exercises -----> usually 8pm-8.15pm
(next to the new Manukau train station & opp. police station)

SOCIAL time @ BRONCOS after car park exercises -----------> 8.45pm-ish

Cost: Nil, nada, zip, zero, nothing... Just your time and attention.

Details of what will be happening each week will be posted on this thread. So kick the tires and light the fires... Let's ride, aSASSins!

    Disclaimer:
The SASS activity is intended to give any riders advice on their riding and to practice their skills in a safe and relaxed environment. The organisers of SASS are NOT responsible for any rider, their machines and/or any persons involved. All people attending SASS do so at their own risk.

Hey gang, have a look at this if you're looking to clean up your pipes...

I already use the Autosol but this method of buffing makes it so much easier now!

Funny but true with the previous answers.
Focussing on the oncoming car (and whatever it was trying to do in the gutter) would not have helped.

I didn't like his lines. Could have kept out wider before turning in.
Was watching something on YouTube and was about to skip the ad but it involved a motorbike so I watched it. It was an ad from Auckland Transport and it was showing why to stay wide on corners with little flags showing the hazards. But I chuckled with the last hazard. A bit of tree. And the commentary was saying to flick (countersteer) around it. Instead the rider went over it.

Rider was to shallow going into the turn so couldnt see through the corner. Rider did not look through the corner as you can tell by his head movement. Rider did not counter steer just tried to turn.

Interesting point s the camera bike behind him did the same thing.

His bad lines aside, he just didnt tip the bike over enough.

I've only ever crossed the centreline once in a left hander, and that was in my first week riding. I figure that bikes have an intense amount of grip and you can lean them an insane amount without them slipping, so just tip it over as much as possible and you'll be fine.

Hey, at least he got his knee down. I heard that's what counts..!

Just looked like he was going too fast for his ability and not enough counter steering. I would probably take a similar line through a corner like that because of the possibility of people cutting the corner and clipping you, which happens all too often. He has the drivers coming the other way to thank for his not ending up another statistic I think.

Anyone around next Tuesday? I'll be keen for an 'unofficial' SASS ride somewhere. Perhaps starting earlier in the day so we can make it a longer trip.

Hey Fraser, I'll be around next Tuesday if you are keen. But don't think will be able to start too early as I'm working. What time do you have in mind?
