    ZXR250A hesitation problem solved

    Hi guys,
I've been riding a 1990 ZXR250A for a couple months and it's been a blast. Unfortunately it's always had some throttle hesitation issues; bogging down under heavy throttle at low/medium RPMs. I'm a newb mechanic so I've been learning as I've been trying to fix it up and I finally solved this annoying problem this afternoon.
    There were 2 problems

    1. A previous owner had installed oversize main jets
    2. The choke plate thing was setup so that one carb had its choke open even when choke lever was closed!

Replaced the jets with what the manual said it was supposed to use and synchronized the choke valves for each carb and now it runs perfectly! No hesitation and it feels a lot faster. It also idles better (steadily at a constant RPM as opposed to varying about 1-200rpm).

Anyway, I'd tried cleaning jets, carb passageways, and other recommended courses of action and whilst they didn't hurt, it came down to just playing with stuff and consulting the manual.

    Yay.

"What Steve said pretty much summed it up."
"I did axactly as you said and it worked...!!"

    All 250s have hesitation issues.

I wonder if you might need to look at replacing the spark plugs if one of the chokes has been stuck open all this time?

    No, they don't.
