Actually, Monarchs are their own worst enemy. We have one plant. It had at least 15 on it. Now it is a single stalk, no leaves. And it has 3 caterpillars left on it. The rest have gone looking for food. They won't find any. So they'll all die.
A bit of pumpkin or cucumber will stop the little critters starving. My girlfriend is nuts about Monarchs & has done a heap of research.

We found that out last year but their is bugger all we can do about it. After planting loads of swan plants in anticipation of a pretty summer this year, not a single caterpillar has appeared......
Been checking out asian paper wasps online and they prey on Monarch caterpillars. First thing in the morning I'm going to break out the bird net...
