Who can tell me who was the 1st NZ Female Motorcycle Racer, what she was Racing and at what age she was when she started Racing?.

A mate raced in the 70's and metioned a few female racers, I will ask him who they were and post after I talk to him

Thanks Smiffy for the info on Karel. She is a Great Role model for Woman who are wanting to get into Motorcycle Racing and I have had the pleasure of watching her Race at Manfeild a couple of times. Very impressive I must say.

Just wish I was 1 of them. Oh well I will just keep on dreaming which I seem to do best and leave it for all the younger Females out there who I seem to be behind a majority of the time.

there was a chic nick-named "Thunderbird Annie"

I knew a chick called thunderbird annie once, never rode bikes and I can't even begin to explain how she got her knickname without a jar of vaseline, a rubber glove, and a pipecleaner!

A pioneer for women in motor sport, Karel became the first woman in New Zealand to win a motorcycle road racing title when she won the national 250GP Championship last year. She was also the sole woman out of 270 entries competing in the Island Classic in Australia this year, and finished a credible third overall.

Pity the photo got a bit damaged but to the right was a young Bob Toomy. No 47 was around for years,trevor Kirby from chch,( aka 'agent orange' ) they came from all over in those days, I've seen many grids of up to forty! gaz.
