Here's a decent loop I've always wanted to do...

(Let's see if this works right...!)

    http://maps.google.co.nz/maps?f=d&so....027208&num=10

Start at the Mobil on Quay Street in the city, with stops in Helensville, Wellsford, and the Puhoi, then finish at the Mobil on Wairau Road on the 'shore...

Only thing is, it's a long ride - if you include a stop in Puhoi it comes to about 180kms...

    Thoughts...?

Thats a lovely ride - but be careful on Hwy 16.

I'd also make your starting point the Shell Station at Massey North (at the end of Nth Western Mtwy).

Have a good ride - I'm in Aussie its sticky and very hot.

Starting in the city, you will be somewhat disadvantaged due to riding trough traffic, motorway and traffic lights. If the ride attracts a larger group you have the possibility of the ride being split into uneven groups, running red lights to stay with the group, speeding and generally riding outside their limits (being that it is a 250 group it does happen more often than not) and hence higher risk.

What you want to do is start the ride at Shell Westgate petrol station (as gilli pointed) at the end of the western motorway. This will give you the oportunities to fill up before the ride, have the riders assembled together (plenty of space even for a larger group) and enable the group to generally travel together therefore eliminating the need for riders to try to "catch up" and put themselves in risk while doing so.

It will be great to get to this ride with you fellas and get the 250 fever started again.

Shiny side up boys and girls.

That looks like a decent ride, but it might be a little long..?

I don't know how to make those route thingies with google maps.

..but one of my fav rides is:

Start at Godley Road Shell,go through titirangi onto scenic drive all the way, then go onto waitakere road, then onto SH16,then turn onto coatesville riverhead highway(another of my fav roads for riding),then onto SH17,then onto SH1,then onto SH18 to westgate.

There are a lot of twisting roads, which I love..

Sounds good! Yeah, was kinda late at night when I put that map together... Thanks guys for the thoughts!

In truth, I dunno where we should go! That's why I always say I'm open to opinions about rides... LOL

I'd suggest missing out Helensville by cutting through Old North Rd and Peak Rd, quite nice roads, much better than the start of 16!

And 180km ain't long at all? At halfway you'll have lunch won't ya. It's only like 2 hours riding total!

So turns out I have Friday, Saturday, and Sunday off work this weekend! One of the guys wants to swap some shifts later on in Feb, he's off on holiday for a week and a bit, so he has kindly offered to take my Sunday shift for me if I cover a couple of his while he is away!

SO, who's keen on a ride over the weekend? Still planning on doing a ride on Friday, maybe Sunday as well...?
