    DOT approved race tyre compounds?

Hi well I thought I'd put this out there and hopefully someone could shed some light on it for me.

when do you use soft tyres and when should you use medium compound tyres?
I have had so many different opinions and versions.

1, soft is for hot days with track temperature above 24*C and medium is for days below that ?

2, soft is for cold days because they grip better and medium is for hot days ?

if it is any help I am racing in pro twins on a SV

    Cheers

1...the tyre is made for the track temp, hot track soft tyres, cold track median tyres

soft tyres will tear like a bastard on a grippy surface in cold weather. They grip mint though. till they tear.and lunch themselves. then they dont grip so good.

different tracks and temps need diff things. how hard you push the tyres too makes a big difference. I used to run softs year round everywhere and they were good. I stuck a soft on for nats and went harder and faster than a year ago so it lunched itself on a practice day at invercargill, for a few reasons i think (it wasn't super warm and invergiggle has a notoriously ruthless track surface/layout)

of course this is all about rear tyres too. soft fronts all good!!!!
