    Lightbulb Post-licence driver and rider training

    I came across this really interesting report commission by the European Commission on post-licence training.

    If you are involved in post-licence training I encourage you to try and read this. It's pretty big, but some bits of note:
    Page 76: Anaylsis and Conclusion (saves you having to read about the methodology)
    Pager 89: Pros and Cons and Track based Training (appears good for all but young riders who can become over-confident)
    Page 98: Pros and Cons of on-road Training
    Page 102: Conclusion in simple bullet point form.
    Page 114: Obstacles to participation in formal rider training

    And if you read nothing else, just cut to:
    Page 118, Recommendations for post-licence driver / rider training

    Some other interesting bits. They say it can be quite hard to convert a pre-licence trainer into a post-licence trainer as the requirements are so different (they list 4 major areas). They say that the coaching style generally works best (as opposed to classroom or instructional based systems).
    It comments about a general lack of standards with post-licence training and the huge variation in the quality of the training.
    It says you should aim not to exceed 10 riders per instructor in track based course, and 3 per trainer with an on-road course.

    It also breaks driver behaviour into 4 levels for targeting (page 121).

    I went to Vienna, I think it was in 2002/2003 for this conference, and represented my country on a European level. It was a very interesting conference, and there were many parts of it that could/should be implemented in just about every country, with the outcome of making everyone ride/drive for a longer life span.
    I have a lot of this data still, if anyone wants to get their hands on it, and read up a bit more.
