    Tweeters and Crossovers

I figure there are some audiophiles on KiwiBiker. They can bugger off. I'm a cheap-arse...

    (Kidding, I'll take any advice...)

I've always thought one of my Wharfedale AT-400's ("Atlantic series" http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/hi-fi...peakers/437228) didn't sound quite right, and recently (way past warranty) I realised the tweeter had stopped doing anything at all.

I decided to experiment by swapping over a tweeter from one of my AT-200's (http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/hi-fi...peakers/437230).

That was fun: While gently pulling off one of the tweeter leads, the whole freakin' lug came off the tweeter. Dunno what was holdiing it on. Then taking the swap tweeter out of the other box, I found that one of its lugs was snapped in half (before I touched it) with the broken half falling out of the crimp connector after I disconnected it.

Lesson 1: Wharfedale tweeters don't seem all that great, quality wise.

After the swap (I was extra careful the half-lug was connected "well") I found the tweeter still made no sound. So now I figure the crossover is bung. But I can't figure out how to remove it. It looks a bit like this one : http://www.surplustronics.co.nz/shop...ct-SP6010.html ... with the crossover mounted on the speaker connector thing.

So anyway, I now need to replace 1 or 2 tweeters, and 2 crossovers (I figure I should keep the crossovers in the AT-400's as pairs, not just replace the bung one).

    Questions:

    1. The speaker connector/crossover unit: I can't figure out how to remove it. I think it's just glued in. Anyone know how to remove them? Is there a trick? (If I can't remove it (without bashing it) I'll just leave it there and mount replacement crossovers externally - "hang" them on the back of the speaker cabinets).

    2. What would anyone suggest for replacement crossovers? The one in the picture above is pretty cheap - is it also crap? They have others: http://www.surplustronics.co.nz/shop...t-900.596.html and also seen some at Jaycar (more $$$) : http://www.jaycar.co.nz/productView....r&form=KEYWORD

    3. I've been estimated from $50 to $70 for replacement Wharfedale tweeters. Sound about right? Any suggestions for replacements? This sort of thing? http://www.jaycar.co.nz/productView....r&form=KEYWORD

    Cheers for any useful words...

Take a look at Jaycar CT2005, CT2007, CT2023, and search for "crossover" on their site.

Just replace anything suspect with higher-end Jaycar stuff. Most jaycar stuff is bloody good bang for the buck.
