Opinions on lids sought

Right...got ratti back from the vet and we are good to go...

put lid on to head upcountry for a blat...OUCH!

Been off the road for several months and have had some extra ear piercings done since I bought the lid..sigh...

Who else has the problem of ear decorations snagging on your lid? How did you get around it? NO Im not taking the dec's out.

The specific issue is that the top cartilage piercing is rubbing on the arm of my correcting lenses once my lid is on. I think I need hollows in the lid for my ears to fit into. I do NOT have huge ears, just ordinary sized ones.

While Im on the subject...what lids are wide enough across the eyes to not press on spec frames? I have bought new narrower frames so my vision doesnt warp, but its still not great..

Im in Welly area so any assistance would be great. I did try on a lid at Boyles this week that felt promising, but they didnt have it in my size so I cant tell for sure.

Can't help you but, a lady that was at one of the rally's in Auckland, had multiple piercings and wore a helmet, not sure how she got away with the huge 1st loop ones, possible a open faced helmet. I want to know how to keep my ear phones in so I can't feel them... and my glasses to sit without squishing my face too... feel for you!

Can't be a huge help as I only have one hole in each ear and find that bad enough that I only wear sleepers. I found my ole helmet a pig for pushing on my ears but find my new one, an Arai has heaps of room around the ears. However I also find it sits a lot lower on my forehead than my HJC, so wouldn't be great if I wore glasses. So sorry, no help at all was I. All I can suggest is to go to as many bike shops as you can and try on as many different helmets you can find until you find one that's right fir your needs and is comfy.
As for earplugs, again a helmet with room around the ears helps and make sure you pull the top of your ear up and back when you put your plugs in and try and put a finger on them as you put your lid on.

Is the problem with earphones a common one? There is an audioligist that comes to Ulysses meetings occasionally who makes custom fitted ear plugs for noise control. He has an option where he will make a pair that include ear speakers. Maybe that might be an option for you Rocket?

I'm fairly new to Welly so don't know where the bike shops are. I have found two here in the Hutt but one of them I will NEVER go back to. I have seen a couple in town, but can't find the blasted places as I dont know the name of the streets or the businesses. Hope someone can help me out with an address and name.

in the Hutt you have TSS in Alicetown and Motomart which is opposite big save furniture, but Im guessing you found those two.
Can't think of any more, I think there's one in Upper Hutt somewhere too.

I can help you out on both accounts here.

My new Shoei RF1100/XR1100 (yes they are the same before any bike shop says different) has both spacing for glasses and for speakers. So that gives room for your glasses and your ears.

It's the new sports/touring helmet for 2010. I'm happy with mine, the graphics hav'nt changed much but I really like them all anyway.

It's comfortable, noise is average and there's a really good system for sealing the visor. Try watching this;

do they do a flip up front version? Dragging my ears/jewellry past the padding and then shoving specs into the hole and groping around for the right spot to park them is no fun at all

Thanks trudes, you're right you are a nice person. I have found both of those ones in the HUtt thanks. I know where boyles are, I'll zip into town next week and look for the other two youmentioned. I htink I know the one on Vivian St, there is a scooter place near the top end and something selling european bikes I think part way down the hill on the right. Parking looks like a pain tho, so I may not get into the shop if I can tpark the bike. Sod walking in this heat.

A friend that rides with glasses has told me that usually most flip-up helmets have enough frontal room for glasses, that's why when he buys a helmet, he first tries the available flip-up ones. For the ears, I know some helmets have cavities or posibility of removing part of the foam where the ears are to mount speakers/headphones. That might be your answer.

If you want to try different helmets, from my experience TSS in lower hutt seems to stock quite a varied range of helmet brands and models, so you can try multiple styles until you find one that suits you. Each manufacturer has a certain head shape for most of its helmets, so if the shape doesn't fit your head, try another manufacturer. For me, for example the AGV helmets are the only ones that fit proplerly. One of the HJC models happened to fit me JUST, but nothing else fits properly and I have tried dozens of helmets: most HJCs, Nolans, some Arais, most Sharks, and many more.

I bought this exact helmet just last week, that graphic and all, is freakin' sweet.

In terms of fitting decorations into it, I have no idea, not having any decorations. Glasses I do have though, oakley ones that are awesome until you put them on in almost any helmet because they dont actually curl down behind the ear, they are just straight with some super rubber gripness being all that stops them falling off your head. Anyway, with the backstory covered, the oakley rod specs do fit into this helmet but I wouldn't call it a perfect fit, they go most of the way but then are held suspended some 5mm from my nose as the rods crash into the rear padding, the side padding then holding it tight and snug in midair. Perfectly rideable, do it quite successfully, but it's not what I'd call ideal.

My specs did however fit into my old HJC quite well, that was a CL-SP, excellent bang for buck helmet that one, great for glasses, but again decor I have no idea.

I like my decs, I dont look like and aging fag, and have found a lid that does the deed.

shite...between jacket, strides, boots and a new lid my bloody gear is worth more than my bike..really.
