It's interesting that she transferred $1k first, then agreed to transfer more (up to $450k WTF) still thinking she was gonna get rich.

How dumb do you haveta be?

There's a normal human condition (that I've forgotten the name of) that causes people to throw good money after bad. It's the reason why some people are problem gamblers. They lose $100 bucks, but just can't let that be a loss. They know if they decide to stop, they will have made a loss - so they figure they'll win it back and keep gambling... losing a pile more.

This lady, once she'd sent the first $1,000 (euro) wouldn't have wanted to see that as a loss. She'd have had a strong emotion making her keep going, in the hope that it would all work out right and she'd get the money back. She'd have known if she stopped sending money, she was guaranteeing that she'd get none back. The more she sent, the more she knew she'd lose if it all fell over.

Scammers rely on this kind of thing.

Of course, none of that excuses her for getting caught up in it in the first place, nor for continuing to send money.

Now she's unemployed and has a criminal history.

    Sucker.

(Her former employer might now get educated too - on how to properly control money and the people who handle it...)

    Good grief.

What a muppet. And 48 years old to boot. I'm surprised she managed to live that long.

Ah I remember a good friend of mine mention this about a month ago... the woman in question worked for his girlfriend's mum.

I couldn't do it justice if I tried to repeat the stories he told me about her, so I won't try.

But she was an idiot. Complete and utter blank page. Somehow completely oblivious to the scam and also made life a whole heap more difficult for her family by promising them financial security and having them act upon it with taking out loans that could of course be paid off later etc etc...

    Daft prat.

I think it's incredibly sad that there are such gullible people out there who genuinely fall for these things. Anyone with a modicum of skepticism in their dna will smell these scams a mile off and either ignore them or play the scammer along (ensuring that no money or genuine personal details leave their guardianship!)

While we laugh at people who fall for it or deride them for being stupid there will always be some who are plain greedy and get caught in the driftnet. There will also be people whose circumstances are such that they are desperate to believe that they've finally gotten the break they need or that fortune has finally turned for them.

The world would be so much better off without scammers, virus and worm creators, and all sorts of other rip off artists. However they are here to stay, and can also provide some hilarious entertainment. Just sad for those sucked in.

Hahaha, yep, and to top it off she was a financial controller. I'd say without a piece of paper on the wall with that amount of stupidity.

There's no excuses these days, unless your 70, for falling for blatant scams such as this. Some are more difficult to spot but this exact one has been around for donkeys now.

    What a fuckwitt.

    She is now unemployed.
Well ain't that just typical. You make one (well ok 13) tiny mistake and you get binned for it.

I'm sure she'll have no problem getting another job though especially with her prowess in international finance.
