Thanks for that BMWST? How have you been since we did the Advanced Refresher Riding Course? May see you on the Tuesday ride perhaps.

You are quite right about the Makara ride and hence my encouragement for riders to do the run with another rider. There will be briefings next Tuesday, and also if there is a small group interested to ride on the weekend I will brief then as well.

Yes it's an interesting road alright, narrow, gravel, unpredictable traffic crossing over your side etc. Some very fine rural scenery too. Used to drive out there flat out to catch poachers as they left the beach. Scary road at speed that's for sure. Saw a guy drop his porsche off the road once.... one has to laugh given the type of car it was and the deflated ego of the driver

Thanks Toaster and Eugene for your assistance.

I have a map for next Tuesday :

    Tuesday 23 February Ride

Riders from last night may want to do this ride over the weekend with a another rider.

I will do a ride Saturday or Sunday morning on this route from the Duckpond if there is any interest.
I have a breakfast meeting Sat from 9am. Could meet after that if weather and time permits. Will keep in touch on schedules etc. Very keen to scope the ride out pre-Tuesday.

Definitely not a hooning ride on Tuesday evenings. You may want to take a ride out there in your own time with another rider, else watch this thread for a time and meet later in the week, for this Saturday.

If the ride is Saturday morning I'm be keen to tag along seeing as I haven't riden that route either.

If it's Sunday I'll have to pass though as predict I'll be a little worse for wear after Homegrown...

Decided to take the long route home tonight and go through Makara for a bit of fun.

Heads up of two things to be aware of.
Road works going on just before the hill up to karori - so lots of sticky tar around.
Also, a small rock slide has been around for about a week. it's just before the second single lane bridge (on the really twisty bit with new tarmac) coming from johnsonville. Quite a few largish rocks over the road from this. You can pick your way through easily if not going too fast.

Still was a good ride - just letting everyone know as the rockfall can come as a bit of a surprise (I expected it to be gone so it caught me out again).

Makara is a great ride and that's good advice to test ride it first. The first time I rode it I found that some of those corners a bit of a fright. I was happy to sit behind a car for a lot of the way to slow anyone coming the otherway. Also be careful if you come across a cyclist coming the other way on a blind corner as there may be an idiot trying to pass him on your side of the road.

The weather looks like it should be OK for the weekend so I might pop along for that.

Don't worry about that, I'm in the same boat as you. I'm not into speed and was worried about keeping up. These Tuesday rides (all two so far) have been great relaxed cruisy rides that as a two month old rider I have been very comfortable with.

    and that sunset was amazing!!
