Boots make a difference for foot position on pegs

For a while now I have been finding that having the balls of my feet on the pegs (as opposed to the arch of the foot) just felt unnatural.

I think now that this comes from the boot I was wearing. Originally I wore the Gaerne GRW. Seems like this boot (whilst good in most respects) is a little bit too restrictive around foot movement.

The reason I say this is that I have just bought a second hand pair of Sidi vertigo mega goretex. While the freedom of movement these boots gave my feet felt strange at first they actually make it feel natural to have the balls of your feet on the pegs. The gaerne boots seem like ski boots now I have tried the Sidis.

Gear changes are a wee bit slower as I am still getting used to moving my foot forward to change gear, but it definitely feels like I'm more in tune with the bike and enables for better fast cornering due to being able to apply pressure to the pegs, plus it makes moving around on the bike way easier.

If anyone else is finding the "racer" foot position unnatural then maybe it's just down to your choice of footwear.

    Cheers

Apologies if "balls of feet" is wrong terminology - sounds a bit but it's all I could come up with.

p.s. Gaerne GRW is still a fantastic colder weather commuting boot - both waterproof and warm.

i'd go see the doctor if your balls are hanging all the way down by your feet!
Then I could get a Kb Tshirt, move to Timaru and become a full time crossdressing faggot

Warm, waterproof, or touring gear usually doesn't give the feel and freedom of movement as more sport orientated gear does.

For this reason I have a couple of sets of gloves and jackets and boots. The more "sporty" gear for warmer summer riding that gives much more feel and control with the bike. Only bring out the bulkier warmer gear when absolutely necessary.

Thick bulky gloves dramatically reduce the feel and control you have over say a single layer of leather of the race gloves.

Being able to ride with balls of foot on peg definitely makes for smoother riding, and move foot forward when changing gears

Usually ride with balls of feet, mostly due to same position of feet in stirrups while on horseback.
