33 dogs massacred in 'rifle-killing frenzy'

I was absolutely appalled at the photo on the front page today of the Herald showing the massacre of 33 dogs.

    http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/ar...ectid=10622729

I do not see the point of showing photos of dead dogs that had been inhumanely killed on the back of a ute and covered in flies. Photos of this nature are extrememly upsetting, especially to young children and any animal lover.

Why could this have not been placed further inside the paper with a warning of the content. If the News on TV has to do this, surely printed media should follow suit.

When I looked at the paper this morning as I ate my breakfast, I almost threw up and was extremely upset over this photo.

They shopuld consider the reactions of their readers and the general public who will see the newspaper displayed in shops etc.

This is yet another example of the Herald's inconsiderate and inconsistant reporting that makes me wonder why I continue to subscribe.

Terrible thing to happen. Let's hope they get to the bottom of it - it's not just the murder of the dogs, stand-over tactics and illegal possession of firearms shouldn't be encouraged either.

But seriously, HTFU! Having a sook about pictures in the newspaper? I hope you didn't read anything about what happened in Haiti recently (and is still going on), that should have made you want to jump off a bridge.

It's just sad that the dogs got caught between these two dickheads and suffered because of their attitudes.

It's only when you take the piss out of a partially shaved wookie with an overactive 'me' gene and stapled on piss flaps that it becomes a problem.

More to this story to come, methinks...

If the owner had to put one of his dogs down because it had attacked a sheep, what else was going on with the rest of the pack?

Mr Hargreaves, who kept the animals on his 5ha block in an old quarry, did not believe they were to blame. However, a day earlier he had shot one after discovering it had attacked a sheep.

Well, I sympathise with you. I too was effected at the dogs suffereing when I read the link.

    However.

There is every chance that people who read this, and see the graphic images will donate more when the next NZSPCA collector comes.

While they looked well fed (thank god), with out regestration, then they have not had their hydatids etc done, they will be riddled with lord knows what, and 33 dogs, what the hell did they do all day?

Sorry to say, they are better off dead.

    But not like that aye!

That's not the point. The point is, it's disgusting behaviour of the fucking media to plonk it right in front of the unsuspecting public and horrify them with it, when if said public knew it was about to be done to them there would be substantial objections raised.

Lots of people just aren't the same as you, and your statements only serve to make yourself an uncaring individual, just like the people against whom the original objection was raised.

There is only one solution to the media problem, and that is to not watch it. Turn the shit off and don't buy the newspapers. Watch them spread their poison to their non-audience then and see how they can make money out of that.

Thank you. I grew up on a farm and have seen many dead animals and am not exactly squeamish. But photos of this unnecessary slaughter is pointless and serves no purpose on the front page of a major newspaper.

Hopefully they will donate to the SPCA.

The dogs looked pretty healthy and well looked after. Hydatids dosing hasn't been done for years.

Why not - you need at least some basis of information in order to come to some informed view.

oh hang on - it all makes sense now.

Moving on - yep - not a nice photo (Im a huge dog lover and have three) - but the images are as other have mentioned not as bad as a lot of others out there. Haiti is a disaster beyond what we can fully understand. Yet - most of us have moved on from the images in the papers and on the news.

People have become desensitized - and it saddens me that people seem to get more upset over dogs than our fellow humans.

Note to say that the the slaughter of the dogs does not upset me - it does, but one has to keep it in context to a couple of hundred people killed and more starving to death by the day.

Perhaps we need more photo's like that to make us all throw up - perhaps then we can be more grateful for the nice lives we all have or kick us into some action to do some good and help people / dogs

The same fucking media which is merely catering to the current trend that people want more and more pictures of worse and worse happenings. I don't buy that for a second.

You are very much mistaken. The only thing here I truly don't care about is your opinion.

Yes indeed, close your eyes, stick your head in the sand and all the bad things will go away. And if they don't run to mommy and have a cry... The news media are merely reporting on happenings that they have analysed to be of public interest. While I don't agree with that practice, you can hardly blame them for wanting to make a profit.
And cutting yourself entirely off from the news stream is a really good way to become truly ignorant of what is going on in the world today - but I wouldn't worry about that now if I was you, I fear it's probably too late.
