    Thumbs up

A last - got the 675 back together, a quick test run up our (previously) quiet cul-de-sac all seems OK!!! As usual last minute paint job looks last minute !!
About to start packing the van

Not so much the event which is the issue, because it's bloody awesome, but it's the bad luck that has plagued me there. Guess you could say the final straw was my bike burning to into an unrecoginisable black lump last year after getting caught up in the first corner pile up in F2.
That equated to about 10mins track time from the practice sessions .... and it was the first outing for the bike after a ground up rebuild involving perhaps 100 hrs work .. thereabouts anyway.
That bike is now stacked in a pile in the corner of my shed ready for when I have nothing else to do in my life.
My other race bike projects are still just that .... unfinished piles of parts.
So I entered Paeora with the notion that I'd do it on my road bike ... done that before, twice.
Takes about 6 hours to change it into a race bike .... and about 6 months to put it back on the road. First time was OK, second time the throttle cable broke in the first practice ... ringing the poor things neck down the front straight ....... ummm maybe 2 minutes track time !! Fuck.
    And, of cause, no spare.
So I just entered Bears this year cos the 748's to slow for F2 now. That's 2 races and 2 practices. However, being second to last race of the day poses the chance that I might only get one race.
Hmmm .... maybe 12-16 mins track time at best.
The hours, the cost and the anguish just don't stack up anymore.
Think I'll go for a surf with my kids this year.
So I'll be thinking of you cats sweating on the dummy grid for 20mins or so in the mind numbing heat .... while I'm scimming the waves.

That right Tony Rees will be there, and he is doing the last 2 Rounds of the NZ Championship.
Sadly it will be on a rather stock bike, but it is great to see him back

Your prolly right Glen .... dunno what's more pathetic either ... an old bastard still trying to surf or one still racing high(ish) powered motorcycles.

Guess I have some issues ... eh

On a more serious note though I still believe that unless you enter 2 or more classes at Paeroa it's just not value for money and effort. Each year after the event I'll think "well, that was fun in a perverse sort of way .... but don't think I'll bother next year" .... but I do. Time makes you forget the bad bits. Plus a determination to actually get through a day there.

Truth is, with the SOT always the weekend after Paeroa, and 3 days on Ruapuna with so much track time it's hard to even do it all for $100 total .... it's a no brainer really.....save the bike and myself for the SOT..... which is not what happened last year.

Anyway ...... have to admit, blasting down the back straight of the hacksaw, tipping it into that seriously fast and scary kink and then hitting the hooks for the hairpin ........ ooh yeah .. that is serious sphinctor clenching fun.
Surf and sharks are pretty lame compared .... shit .... wonder if I can get my entry back !!!!

Try it Ed, like you said its only a few hours work to get the 748 ready so you could even manage that staurday morning.
