Highs n lows in 1 weekend

ahh the One Nite Stand Rally .. woo hooo .. fabulous weather fantastic company and new rubber, chain and service done ...

Fantastic ride to Palmerston totally aware that the fog left the roads slightly damp and needing to scrub the tires in, but the bike felt fantastic and brought a grin to my face ........................... alas it was not to last

Entered the 50k area on the way to Oscarnz when car in front did the whole emergency braking .. ohh hit the picks really really hard .. bike locked up and looking for the out , ahh yup .. ahhh fark .. spotted the reason he stopped .. no question and no hestiation, the only option was to turn BB into the back of the car. Managed to stay on and upright :

The reason: young kid on bike hidden by shrubs on edge of road .. mother on opposite side of road, both on pushbikes .. dunno why they would be on opposite sides on a busy road, but there ya go .. I completely understand why the driver thought this kid could possibly try & cross the road and you could not see him until a few meters from the crossing.

So mother & kid fine, me & driver fine, car small dent, BB umm not fine .. have pretty much smashed all the front fairings & one fork slightly bent. A few phone calls and HUGE THANKS to Oscarnz and Pauly for coming to get me and to Owl and Tracy for coming to pick up BB, (seen you post about bike recovery but did not think I would make use of it so soon )

shortly after 86GSXR, Monamie and SuperSonic turn up (we suppose to be riding to the rally) I had already resigned myself to a weekend at home and totally ok with that but we all headed to Carmen's to sort stuff, Monamie Bless her generous heart said ok you just have to ride my bike to the rally I will jump on the back of Al .. so off inside to call insurance and get that sorted .. Mo comes in at end of call .. and lets go its all sorted everyone repacked 4 ppls gear on 3 bikes

so off on the mighty "Trusty Thrusty" and slow through Woodville where we were supose to meet Sels & Gareth, however accident put us over a hour later .. sure enough they were not there and on we headed .. Waipuk and a few familiar faces we finally became 6 ppl and 5 bikes. Off to the site to set up tents, dump gear off & head into town for late lunch & visiting. At this time the headache was in full force and a few aches being felt so jumped on the Tiger while Mo finally got her bike back. awesome hot hot hot weather so open jackets & visors with wind dealt to the headache a fair bit.

Thanks to Tart & Mstrs for the coffee, conversation and drugs great to catch up and get the .. interesting convo with Sonic just as we were getting ready to leave ... but what is said on tour stays on tour ......

Arrived back in time for prize giving and won the hardluck story for the ride .. however I think it really had to go to the guy who got within 100 mtrs of the road to the rally when he T boned a car & I understand may have broken leg .. he got a free chopper ride to hospital .. at least I made it to the rally ...

Getting all sorted this morn & noticed I missed a few calls from mum .. quick call & Ambo has been called for dad .. obviously she is really upset so stayed on the line til sister in law arrived but certainly that sick feeling is kicking in & my mind is not really on riding the bike .. however a slow slow trip around the twisties heading out (thanks Sels for waiting & giving me lines to follow ) another phone call at havelock confirmed the family situation is under control and a hot choccy and time settled the stomach for the ride home ..

Feeling rather battered now I am back home, but I am totally relieved at how the crash went down, I would be beyond devestated if I hit a child .. bikes can be fixed or replaced human life can not. The police confirmed the only choice I had was to take the action I did, and looking at the skid on the road confirmed that I was braking really hard to avoid the possible tragedy. The insurance company were a delight to deal with and obviously I was talking to a "mother" as when I explained the situation she also was supportive ..

I feel totally blessed to have such great friends who not only drop things to come to my aid and along with picking up my bike .. offering me their pride and joy instantly without any hesitation,

Monamie I certainly never expected that but thank you so much .. your an awesome, generous and supportive friend

Camen, Pauly, Owl and Pegasus thank you for EVERYTHING .. you guys are the bomb .. seriously

86GSXR, Supersonic , Sels and Gareth ... thank you so much for redistributing everything so I could go and making sure I was ok .. thanks for the laughter and pillion rides and today for looking afterme til the situation was eased .. It means alot

KiwiKat thank you for also bringing some of our gear home today, made it a bit easier for sure

All of those guys above deserve a crap load of bling : outstanding

To all the other Kbers and friends thanks for the texts & checking up on me .. regardless of what others say KB does rock ..

Chanceyy I am so pleased that it was not worse for you or the child. You certainly have some great friends down there, but nothing more than you deserve. Bugger about your bike chick but glad you made it to the rally. Big hugs for ya and take it easy on yourself

You are most welcome chickie, was rather pleased to here you were alright. Was very lucky not to get indigestion with how fast I ate my cafe breakfast, so that we could come and make sure you were under control.
Was so glad that you still got to head to the rally, and have some laughs.

Now you just need to make sure that the insurance and assesors play the game.

No worries Chanceyy, we're pleased to help and glad you're ok.

Plus, I needed some bike loading/unloading experience, so better a broken Suzuki than my Trumpy

Oh babe! What a huge fright! Never mind the bike, she is repairable, you are ok and the child is unscathed! Glad you got to the rally too and everything on the seniors home front is under control. You will be looking forward to a quiet one next weekend I bet.

Was glad ya made the trip up Sandra (good on ya Mo) with no major body damage, think someone i know has more bruising from the stage show than you got in a bike prang, well done !!!
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

It was lovely to see you all.
I am happy to share my drugs with fellow bitches....glad to be of help.
Look after that shoulder, sweets, and that offer I made stands, ok?
You did good....a busted bike is little compared to how it could have been.
A lesson in why we should practice emergency braking....maybe Sugilite knew something when he posted that....

Cheers Guys .. Yeah Carmen, given the convo's over the weekend I am pretty resigned to the bike being written off, thats a pity cause I really love my bike .. will explore the other options with Pauly's help though ..

practice makes perfect Owl .. seriously hope you do not need to get that ute out much

Mom I wish .. have a triathlon next sunday so cycling is on the agenda, will head out later today & see how the body feels

Sinny - that was funny as n am sure you will remind him of the good bits aye .. or get pics/video from Gareth

Thanks so much for that offer Tart I have a pillon ride on a hog sorted for 16th feb thanks funny I was shakey for about 5 mins after, still have no probs with the decision I made

yeah on the emergency braking thread it did come to mind afterwards and Sugi & I have discussed always looking for the exit, about to take it when that option was no longer available it was real split decision time and I have no issue about the action I took. Everyone was surprised about how calm I was afterwards, they all thought I would be pissed off, when you make a call like that and everyone is ok what is there to be pissed off about ?

It was an excellent weekend, even given the highs and lows! I knew when you called that you would probably be keen to get on the road and I'm really glad you didn't let BB's demise keep you from a great ride and a great get together. Yep, accident's suck, and as far as this one went I think you did brilliantly A textbook example of what to do right!!!
