One problem with the car only, the passenger side window rubber went a bit funny and had to be replaced. That was about it. The timing belt wasn't cheap to change either. And it does need to be done to save the engine going all Chernobyl on you.

My verdict is that it was a good car and pretty damn economical too, though not at 130Mph.

Have you looked at the Rover Sterling - Not ever owned one, but have driven one a few times. Not cheap to run but faaaarkin nice for a cheap luxury family car!
They're not too bad at all those, they're like having an up-spec Accord inside, with a beige and reliable motor.
I can do a cambelt for under $300 easily on one

The one you're looking at Indy has the H23A motor, they're great engines.
I'd avoid the Sterling myself, they can be troublesome and expensive to fix, thirsty too. Better off buying an E34 525 for similar money, better car in every way

The 620Ti went pretty well for what it was, before the inevitable exploding engine and gearbox Makes me want a Tomcat. Even though a Prelude with an H22A will rip one in half.

It's starting to get confusing lol
There were a few of those in the Rep fleet when I was working in London in 95/96 ish and the guys that had them, loved them (although the Pug 406 I inherited when I joined out-handled them and I resisted the offer to swap). Definitely a cut above your Cavaliers and Mundaneos back in the day. They were all built at Honda's Swindon factory and all but the diesel I think are Honda motors.

600 is the series, 618 = 1.8 motor, 620 = 2.0 etc. When you build a car aimed at the fleet market, it's important to have that status indicator on the back!

Agree about the running costs of a Sterling. It was a nice drive though (at that time).

My 620si was an ex-company car from the auctions. There was also a 623GSI. This may be the same engine as in the one Indy's looking at?

I had a 825 Sterling for a few years, it was the equivalent of the Honda Legend. It was pretty nice but lacked soul. I replaced it with a SD1 V8 manual, vast improvement.
I didn't have the Sterling long enough to notice any increased running costs. The SD1 was certainly a lot thirstier.

Sure was, it's a shame they never made the later 3.2 Hona in to one, they were seriously nice cars too

Yeah AFAIK all 623s had the H23A motor

From what I've read online all of the 600 series a part from the 'ti' and diesel ones have Honda engines.

That 623 on tardme looks nice, if it got ok mpg I might be in for a look.

Realistic average of 8-9L/100km I'd say. Not hugely fantastic, but probaby better than my boat... er car

8-9L/100km combined would be good enough, I mean from the sounds of it, I'd be getting the same from the 416.

    That's a fair point.
I know that's about what the Accord with the H23 got, the H22 is a bit better, and has a shed load more power. But you can't go too wrong with either

Clearly you will get far better economy out of the 416, but you will be getting so much more car with the 623 for not a huge drop in economy, unless of course you drive it like a complete caaaaaant. But then of course Mrs Indy will be there to administer corrective measures

Far better or just a little bit more? I mean if there's a decent difference between the 416 and 623 than I might lean towards the 416.

Granted the 623 seems to be a tougher and more luxury car.

OK - See if this will make you feel better:

Drive the 416 like a complete caaaaant and the 600 series like an old granddad And you'll find that the 600 series is indeed quite a bit more economical

Because of the extra weight and momentum, you can put the 600 in neutral and free-wheel down 3km sections past Newton and down to the flyover bit before the harbour bridge

Not sure how the viaduct has changed that

Now the thread seems to have morphed into a Honda love-fest, should be safe to mention the Rover 216 cabriolet my daughter had (until fairly recently). Fun wee car, not too slow even though automatic. Power (hydraulic) roof mech worked well. Nail in the coffin was the ABS failed and she was quoted minimum of $2k to repair. Was traded on an Astra.

    lol nice tip.

Just took a look at a 623. Was real nice to drive

This example is a good honest car, one owner since it got here in 1999, but a bit tired around the edges. His price reflects this, so kinda tossing it up. The mrs was keen on the model of car, but might want to wait for a tidier example to come along.

Should be taking a look at a 416 on Friday should it not sell.

My bro just sold his manual E36 325i for $2k today, that would have been perfect to teach her how to drive a manual msport suspension too
