Not leyland, but on the subject of overpowered Eurotrash - Simca (part of the Rootes group) had a model called the 180, which came with smallish (up to 2 litre) 4 cylinders. Chrysler Australia produced a version with the Valiant Hemi (the "little" 245, but, still...)

I only saw one, and never had a chance to drive it, but I'm guessing similar handling to the Marina 6

Thats why they invented handbrakes though, so you could go round corners.

NZ new, but Aussie assembled? I didn't realise that the late one with the vinyl splitter came with anything but the 'o' series engine.

Same colour too, I'd give a fingernail to get my old estate back.

The Freelander was an absolute fail for Rover.

I seem to remember the AA giving it the SUV breakdown record in the early 2000s.

Marinas were far better vehicles

Indy don't do it.

Way too unreilyable. If you want a Landy get a Defender of a Series truck.

If you still want a freelander get a Suzuki grand vitara.

I have had my curent stage 1 V8 Landy for 8 years, sure I have broken a few things, but parts are very cheap and easily available. It is also an easy vehicle to repair.

Finally "her in doors" won't drive it so it is always full of fuel, LPG and petrol.

I thought the L series diesels were pretty sound?

cheers for the tips.

I think a defender would be cool, but had to be diesel and manual. as much as I love the older series ones, I couldn't afford to run it lol. But then again LPG is an option I guess, but seems less and less places offer it now.

Oh... I was thinking about the petrol lump, and not the diesel, which would be a far more reasonable proposition

The Defender is a little agricultural for a family car, but I'd still love to have one

Fully accessorised the Marina today - it now has a a smiley face (on reflectorised defraction tape no less!) on top of the chain-saw piston gear-stick knob!

Ya cain't buy that kinda quality of accessory on Trade Me!
