    Prior to the new millennium, the poms used a new stand-alone letter on the plate every year, to identify the age of the vehicle. Y reg was 1 August 1982 – 31 July 1983.

    So did the Brits. As well as the year identifier the last two of the three letters also indicated where the vehicle was first registered. My old Cortina UCH was from Nottingham. Like what I am.
