The MKII is certainly my favourite Jag. My uncle had one and, in those days, it was a very fast car indeed. It was an upgrade from his Rover P6 2000

My first car was a G reg, UCH 490G, funny how you remember those little things.

1968 Mark 2 Cortina it was. Year of my birth as it happens.

Prior to the new millennium, the poms used a new stand-alone letter on the plate every year, to identify the age of the vehicle. Y reg was 1 August 1982 – 31 July 1983.

So did the Brits. As well as the year identifier the last two of the three letters also indicated where the vehicle was first registered. My old Cortina UCH was from Nottingham. Like what I am.
